I read in the London Evening Standard that Dagenham and Redbridge could fold in the summer due to financial problems. Players expected to go unpaid this month. Not good times for football in that part of the country as Thurrock FC play their last home game on Saturday against Kingstonian.

Considering Guiseley lost 5-3, I came away happy. What did the result matter anyway? It was a warm evening, with plenty of entertainment on the pitch, including an early goal gifted to Dagenham, with Coddington and a defender reprising a Chuckle Brothers' sketch ("From me to you Barry"), and Guiseley clawing their way form a 2 goal deficit. And indeed later adding a rare third goal.
But it was not to be. The whole evening had the feel of a pre-season friendly (including a small crowd- just over 300). Guiseley played a very attacking formation, but risky with plenty of potential for leaking goals, considering that there has not been a semblance of settled team throughout the season.
I was pleased to see that the Saint had decided to play and seemed to provide confidence to the team. In the short-term future at least, if he was to be offered the manager's job, I think he would be best as a player-manger.
I thought that the half time substitutes Rooney and Nirenold gave a good display of their true worth, apparently unshackled by positional constraints imposed on them in other games; Palmer was his usual solid self at the back. Nirenold looked very threatening and creative being allowed to play much further up the pitch on the right wing. Rooney has a great football brain, frequently spotting potential opportunities that other supporting players don't. Tonight he provided a fair few deft flicks and incisive passes that other players responded to.

Though SSL was immense in the second half, he spent most of it in midfield. His vision and passing showed his class, whereas in defence he showed his age. Agree with previous poster if he is here next season would love to see him register as a player. He was the man we have been missing in midfield all season. Someone comfortable on the ball and always looking for the killer pass. To me it was one of the most enjoyable games of the season. If we had a half decent striker we would have scored more. Can’t believe Roberts when the ball was put on his head totally unmarked in the area he chose to head it backwards rather than at goal. We had several who appeared to be goal shy. First half Odejaye was excellent but second half he went back to the guy with no control. Let’s have the same adventurous game on Saturday. Amazing how we all see the game differently as a friend said he thought SSL was poor.

Give him the manager's job on condition he never plays centre back again, or even considers it. As a holding midfield player, I agree with you - he still has touches of class. I couldn't understand the Roberts' header either. But it was far and away the most enjoyable match this season - need that elusive bit of luck e.g that scramble when we hit the bar. I won't be popular for saying this, but (apart from 2 bad touches) Odejayi's general control, hold-up play and passing are a joy to watch - a master craftsman at work; just needs a decent co-striker. For a relegated team, I thought we showed a lot of commitment and no little skill.

Crazy but thoroughly enjoyable game of footy this evening. Agree with all of the sentiments expressed above thought Rooney was superb second half and Nirennold looked like a proper attacking wing back. If only SSL had played Ash Palmer instead of himself from the off we might have won the game. Some of the football we played this evening was top class and it makes you wonder what might have been had PC not being given the managerial reins?

A really enjoyable game at Nethermoor last night and I can't remember coming away from our home having enjoyed a match that much for a while. Even when we beat AFC Fylde a few weeks ago this was just more entertaining that that. Surprisingly the first 45 took a bit of time to get going but when it did it was pulsating! Elliot Green back from injury and a loan spell at Alfreton came closest to opening the scoring but his header went just wide. However just after the fifteen minute mark Cheek opened the scoring when Coddington fumbled. The Lions pushed for an equaliser but couldn't find one. Daggers attacked and doubled their advantage with a powerful drive past Coddington. No one saw what was coming next, Purver's cross from 20 or so yards out flew over Cousins hit the inside of the post and went in. Then a minute later it was 2-2! Roberts was fouled in the box but the forward saw his penalty saved, there was Hudson for his home debut to slam the rebound in. In typical Guiseley style though this season it was soon 3-2, that man Cheek again! Just a minute later though the scores were levelled, Lenighan acrobatically turned in the loose ball. It was the Daggers' turn for a penalty on the cusp of half time and they ended the scoring a 4-3! The second half didn't have the goals but did have a comedy moment. Lenighan, Odejayi and Rooney all had a go at equalising but blocks, saves and the crossbar saved the Daggers. Cheek made it 5-3 in dubious fashion, his shot hit Coddington flew into the air and he looked to push Palmer into the net with the ball. It was good to see Elliot back and Curtis Morrison watching on from the sides along with a certain Jonny Maxted. Hopefully E.Green, Morrison and Haworth can all feature in the last three games as we prepare for next season. Well played Guiseley! Onto Woking's visit to Nethermoor on Saturday. Come on Guiseley! Certainly the most fun at Nethermoor all season. Thought we attempted to play football all game and how we didn’t score in the 2nd half only Robbie Fowler knows Referee was truly the worse and the 5th goal was a prime example as Palmer was rugby tackled into the net. Came home more optimistic than of late and it was good to see the squad being used. Thought Odejayi played better with the ball on the deck than long balls launched to him. Liked Roberts bar the header. We have a squad in the making - what we don’t know is how that will do in NN Be interesting to see who plays tomorrow - come on the wolves

Agree with Ivor and Mr P hope the three goals gives the team the confidence it needs. Maybe we can play six upfront and four at the back against Woking. Let’s just go for it in the last few games.
