Let's put this in context. GAFC is little more than a train set to Mr.P. and it's tax deductible. He's no doubt spending much more on his racing stable although the returns should be somewhat better.

The reference to 'paying dividends' was in relation to the aims of assembling a squad that could 1, avoid relegation and 2, compete in the top half of the National League and beyond moving forward. There are very few investors that turn a profit from a football club and probably none at our level!

Molyneux and Holden costed us points last year. Lee should have been out on his backside with Darren in my opinion (maybe he’ll prove me wrong this year, we’ll see) I thought that Jake would leave either away and some of the other losses such as Callum and Marcus have left me quite frankly bewildered. I think we have to hope for signings now... Let’s see what goes on.

Reassuring noises from Colin & Dave. Steve sums it up perfectly - we need to release funds (wages) to create a squad for next season. And realistically some of that is amongst our “retained list” of whom we may get freed wages and an additional fee. I think Purver, Hatfield may “get” our club and stay but with Halifax going FT could see Hatfield move on. The others will follow the £££s I’m not thinking Mr S P will drop us - if he did we might as well drop to NE Counties - but as Steve said (and I think echoed by Mr S P at fans forum) we need to grow our club and see where it takes us

Surprised to see Callum McFadzean has left the club, at times he was a vital part for us last season will be interesting to see where his next move is. Sad to see two long servers in Jake and Danny Lowe leave the club too, even though it was all but confirmed these lads will be missed at Nethermoor with tremendous service over the last few years. I think that Andy and Elliot showed glimpses of what they can offer us last season and E.Green played very well the season before before picking up his nasty injury. I always thought Danny East was a good addition too but injuries have curtailed his career here unfortunately, the same situation with James Wesolowski, he couldn't string two games together. Marcus, Rob and Darren were three solid defenders who again were vital to us over the past few years. Kevan had a better season under Lockwood and has struggled to nail down a place this season with everything that went on with him being a part time player, lovely guy! Happy with what we have kept too, if we manage to keep hold of them the strike force could be lethal with Hatfield and Purver feeding in from midfield. Rooney and Molyneux will also be crucial to our creativity and despite the comments above I quite like Harvey, likes a tackle and is calm on the ball. Be honest, AB, you'd be happiest with a squad of 50... Well it would make this thread quite long again wouldn't it?! AB

Noticing a few nerves on here following the released/retained list.
Very early days yet, I’m sure a coaching team of Marcus and co’s experience will have their targets and a solid idea of what’s needed in a NLN side.

As a collective I have noticed a tendency toward pessimism amongst Guiseley fans. It’s particularly understandable given the last twelve months, but the new guys should be given a chance to get to work. Rome wasn’t built in a day and all that. But then again, where would we be in the summer months without idle speculation huh?

Consequence of the overspend in backing PC last season is a reduced budget for the coming season, something that both managers, by their own admission, have been made aware of. So I don't think Steve Parkin is looking to walk way, he's just looking to ensure the clubs finances are put back on a secure footing while maximising revenues. Both Russ and Marcus know this level well and have track records in developing competitive sides and identifying potential, so I am not too worried if some of the retained players move on as it might be good to clear the decks and start again with players who are hungry for success and not just here for the dosh.
Splashing the cash very rarely works unless you have a manager of Pep Guardiola's calibre and you only have to look down the road for a good example of what can be achieved where Harrogate Town got the infrastructure in place, signed a bunch of relative unknowns last summer and then nearly won the league behind Salford. And that's with a manager who has been trying for a good few seasons using his dad's company's spare cash!
