We make no promises of quality, but there will be Guiseley Radio coverage of today’s Gateshead game at mixlr.com/guiseleyradio. Please join us on the chat board there, and tell us where you’re listening from, and if you are at West Auckland keep us up to date with the score!

Funny sort of a day at Nethermoor. Thought we were the better side across the game but ultimately individual errors cost us. And once again, an inability to finish off the chances we create! Thompson fractions away, Liburd has the ball delivered onto his forehead and still contrived to head over, and even the usually reliable Will Hatfield could’ve had a hat trick. I know it’s only pre season and still early, but perhaps some shooting practice is in order. I thought Cliff Moyo played very well, and in the first half our defence looked pretty sharp. Squires was unfortunate that he had a duff ten minutes, playing a perfectly weighted through ball to the Gateshead striker, and then trying to tackle Niall Heaton. But there’s promise there, once he settles down. Joe Green made a couple of decent saves and was a bit unlucky for the penalty, his save was pretty decent but he wasn’t able to get rid quick enough. But he should have held onto the ball leading up to the second. All in all, I’m not sure what to think. That’s okay at this point, I suppose. It wouldn’t do to get carried away, it’s still only July after all...

As you said Cliff Moyo had a great game, he looks a very good signing. I thought it was a very poor attendance.. A game we didn’t deserve lose lose. We played some nice football but we need to be more ruthless in front of goal. Pre season is all about getting players fit and getting match practice. The real stuff starts 2 weeks today, can’t wait for the trip to Boston, then we will see what we are really made of.

Thought we played well today, apart from the short period of play where we failed to clear the ball after initial saves by Joe Green resulting in 2 goals.. Most of the Lions played a full 90 minutes whilst Gateshead brought on lots of subs in second half. Moyo was magic again, Kingsley was a strong physical presence, Clayton challenged consistently, Hatfield had several opportunities to rectify the score line and Kennedy looks a great prospect. Can’t wait for the season to start now. COYL🦁

A strange game today that struggled to get going in the first then came to life in the second half. Both sides lacked the quality in the first 45 to make an impact with the visitors making three or four changes at half-time that had the desired effect. Liburd's powerful run nearly set up Reece Thompson but he just couldn't reach the ball as it was crossed into the box. We were denied a stonewall penalty just after the half hour mark though when Thompson was pushed to the ground, it was missed by Mr Moss but he did admit at half-time he should have given it! Then the second half exploded into action with three goals in six minutes. We were first to score when Liburd scored with a good finish but Gateshead immediately equalised. The ref correctly gave the penalty this time after Green had brought down their attacker. He made a good save from the spot though but couldn't stop the rebound. Then Gateshead edged in front with a scuffed effort that hit the inside of the post and trickled in. Armstrong then hit the post again shortly after. We had an header cleared off the line though before the game shortly game to a close. It was the best test we have had so far in terms of playing the type of opposition we are likely to come up against next season. Onto Bolton at home on Tuesday night. Come on Guiseley! AB

WAFC 1- 0 Guiseley. WA regular here. Pretty even affair with both sides tiring towards the end. WA probably deserved it in the end having created the better chances albeit there weren’t too many. Guiseley had 3 identical free kicks from around 22 yards on the right of our box and every one was put over the bar by your 7 - sorry no names or team sheet and I gather you had some youngsters, Trialists and a few 1st team.
Our attack seemed a bit more clinical in the last 3rd whereas the 2 up front for Guiseley seemed to hold the ball too long before losing it and WA broke on the counter resulting in the only goal of the game when initial shot was only parried out for a tap in.
On the plus side I liked your Left back (no17) He was your main attaking threat 1st half linking up well and forcing our keeper into a couple of saves as well as getting back to clear off the line just before HT with your keeper beaten. Tidy in possession when the CB resorted to hoofing it and our pitch isn’t the greatest with its multi directional slopes 😜
Enjoyed it and a good run out for both sides - very best if luck for the season to all at Guiseley. Good to see a few travelled.

I thought it was a very poor attendance.. It was a bit disappointing, at just over 300. But it was the first weekend of the school holidays for a lot of people, and if I remember the Gateshead game was added later than the other friendlies. Hopefully the Bolton game will see a few more in, and the Leeds game is always well attended. And I would hope that perhaps a few wins at the start of the season will bump up attendances.

From the West Auckland report: "half the outfield players that come to the Wanted Stadium yesterday, were playing in the Conference last season" Excellent research from a talented budding spin doctor!

Being pedantic should that not be 'came' instead of 'come'?

Flowers, 'Dicey', Purver, Dawson, Ray-Harvey, Odejayi. With Morrison, Smith, Fletch, Gomersall round the 1st team and Jack making the step up. Was a strong non league game.
