Half time 0-0 We have dominated play and had the bulk of posession. Cotterill headed over from a corner and a rasping shot from Ellis cannoned off the bar just before half time. These chances apart, we haven't created a great deal against a Stamford team who have put plenty of men behind the ball. We look a bit unbalanced with Noble at left back and Dunning on the left side of midfield and Ellis in the middle. We will need to step up a gear in the second half if we are to get maximum points from this one.

You would have thought the team today was made up of a random selection of blokes picked outside the ground ten minutes before kick off. Witton 0 - 3 Fleetwood Gav scored again today for Ilkeston

A hugely disappointing afternoon which saw two vital points slip away and once again we failed to match our home performance with recent away performances. We have won just 8 of 18 home league games this season with 5 draws and 5 defeats. We've drawn 3 and lost 2 of the last 5 at home (scoring 3 goals in the process - we have scored 14 in the last 5 away)and if we don't make the play offs there will be no need to look any further for the reason why.
Although we made most of the running, we again failed to show enough guile and invention against well organised opposition who put plenty of men behind the ball and were content to play largely on the break. I thought we looked unbalanced at the start with Noble and Dunning on the left - a right footers they were constantly coming inside rather than attacking down the left flank, and we looked lacklustre throughout the team. Rightly, the formation was changed at half time with Fernandez switched to the left and Dunning playing in the middle, where he can do most damage - but we didn't pose a much greater threat in the second half and I don't remember the Stamford keeper having to make a save of note. Hanson looks less of a goalscoring threat without Tuck and, today at least, Holden looked ordinary. Our passing was ragged throughout, the movement wasn't good, the team lacked cohesion and we never really looked like breaking down the opposition. That said, Hanson missed a very presentable header in the second half and Wilford headed wide at the far post when it looked easier to score.
So, we are going to have to do it the hard way. Its still in our hands and, put simply, we have to match Eastwood Town over the last six games to be certain of making the play offs. Even if we don't (and Eastwood look to have the easier games to me), Buxton may come to grief as they play six of their last eight games against teams above them. I still think we need minimum 70 points which means four wins out of six remaining games, away at Leek, Fleetwood, Witton and Worksop and home to Hednesford and Kendal. Next Saturday at Fleetwood will be very tough, especially as they can now catch Witton with their games in hand, having won 3-0 at Witton today. Let's hope it doesn't all come down to needing a win in the last game on 26 April - we are at home!!

I wasn't at the game today. Thankfully I followed Adam's lead and went to Cadbury Land instead. Didn't see him though! There's been some implied suggestion (not you cdp) that the poor home form is in some way down to the crowd. I don't think that's fair. Having seen Tuck a few times I would imagine that he was missed upfront today. Tuck and Hanson have been the best pairing of strikers I have seen all season.

Why do we always play down to the level of the opposition when at home? we lacked ideas, our delivery was poor, lacked leadership on the pitch, we didn't spread the ball out to fernandez in the first half instead we fiddled about with it on the left, the second half was just as frustrating as we tried the long ball. As cdp said if we don't make the play off's our home form will be the key. No left back again - was Dave Merris injured? Holden is an untried striker when we need experience right now - Gavin Knight is scoring - get him back or make Farsley an offer they cant refuse for Tuck - they are going down anyway! Any way, rant over R

Like Richard said Gavin's experience is invaluable right now, Bruno needs time to adjust to the higher level and time is something we haven't got at this point of the season. It's now that the manager should decide what's more importent to his team, bringing Gavin back and sorting things out with him, or his pride, nobody would think any the less of him if he did, in fact I for one would admire him for it. We can still make the play offs but not if there are many more match displays like Saturday.

I think constant tinkering with the team helps no-one how are they expected to get used to each others style of play if it keeps changing? Why wasn't more use made of Fernandez, every other team knows about Hanson so the long ball forward is a waste of time and he needs someone quick like Tuck to work off not someone like himself and finally Dave Merris try asking .........
