I couldn’t make todays game but we’re definitely looking over our shoulder rather than the playoffs at the moment. We’re shipping too many goals presently.

Not a good performance today and third game lost in a row. Frustratingly we are making the chances just somehow it's not coming off. Other than Adam no one seems prepared to force their way into the box, that's not to say some good balls don't go in,but can we be honest here high balls to Cas don't work. Worrying that we are prepared to sell squad players bearing in mind our injuries record so can we look to spend some of that money on a CD because at the moment the defensive line is pretty shaky to say the least.

Listening to the post match interview it sounded very much that Ellis was as surprised re the departures as we are

So do we take it from that that our directors are more concerned with players worth than ambitious to get promotion

Same story as the last few matches I have watched- we didn’t play particularly badly, but we did not carve out enough clear chances and failed to convert those we did get. There was a period early in the 2nd half where I was starting to think there was an invisible force field around their goal- two separate instances of pinball in their box where it just wouldn’t go in.
On the other hand, we gave away soft goals and Radcliffe did convert their chances. The ease at which we seem to be conceding is a real concern. That’s now 2 clean sheets in 18 league matches so far this season- only Belper have kept fewer than that. I’m still keeping the faith but it does look like this season will be more about consolidation and regrouping than a push for promotion, at least for the moment. Hopefully when the likes of Harris, Chippendale and Daly return we will be in better shape.

We shouldn't get too far ahead of ourselves. The press release on the Guiseley website stated, "We can confirm that Ethen Vaughan and Jorge Sikora have joined Marske United for undisclosed fees." It didn't say Guiseley had received a fee for them.
If I remember correctly, someone commented on the chat box on Guiseley Radio this afternoon that we've already used 40 different players this season.
We're getting up to Cox-esque sized squads. I seem to remember we got up to squad numbers in the 40's, maybe higher, in that era. Perhaps the finance boys and girls at the club are requesting a reality check?

Just to confirm a fee was received for Ethen Vaughan and Jorge Sikora hence the undisclosed fees reference in the article on the website. AB

The 40 player thing is from Football Web Pages by the way, and misleading. It includes players from the WRCC game against Horbury, most of whom were academy players who made one appearance and are unlikely to play for the first team outside of that competition, so the list is artificially bloated. It doesn’t mean we’ve burned through that many players in the league and it certainly doesn’t mean we’ve returned to the bad old days of Cox. (When all 40 of those would be on the payroll on ridiculous contracts and twenty three of them would be training seperate key from the first team because Cox had isolated them). So I wouldn’t put too much store in that figure. A lot of clubs in this league have used 30+ players, and not all of them used their academy teams in their local FA Cup games. Player turnover is to be expected when you’ve had to build a team from scratch. Didn’t the Danny’s say at the Meet the Manager evening that not all the players they’d brought in had lived up to expectations and would be moved on? By my count We currently have a squad of about 21 players which is actually pretty small.

So do we take it from that that our directors are more concerned with players worth than ambitious to get promotion Danny said offers came in and the players wanted to leave to get first team football. I don’t see how you get your thing from that tbh.

Lets hope Russ O'Niell has a couple of defensive targets ready to join our merry band and maybe we need his input to get us out of this rut?

As mentioned above it wasn't a bad performance today, we created some good chances but made some big mistakes at the back against a side who more than made the most of their opportunities in the game. The warning signs were there just a couple of minutes in when Pedro was unmarked but headed over from a couple of yards out. We had an opening ourselves not long after though, Haw drove with the ball and carved open an opportunity for himself but couldn't his effort on target. Then Ellis had to be withdrawn through injury and Emery came on in his place. Whitham was causing problems all afternoon and put some great crosses into the box but Radcliffe defended well and cleared the danger. They couldn't stop Haw though, Qasim controlled the ball but just couldn't get a shot off and Haw was there to power home the loose ball. Whitham nearly doubled our lead when his curled shot went just over the bar. It was a couple of minutes later when Karacan equalised with a free header. The game got quite scrappy after that but just before the break we gave away a free kick in a dangerous area and Smith had the six yard box to himself and beat Hiddleston with ease. We started the second half the better of the two sides and Haw saw an early shot saved. Whitham put in a great cross but it was just out of reach for Qasim and Haw. Haw had another shot from the edge of the box which Stewart saved. Emery nearly equalised in bizarre fashion as Ible knocked down a header which Emery flicked just over as he was falling to the ground. Then after an hour it was pinball in the home box, I think we had four or five shots all of which were blocked by home defenders. Karacan didn't care five minutes later though when he finished off a quick move for his second of the afternoon. Then a minute later we were back up the other end but Stewart made an excellent stop to deny Haw. Dean was the next to test Stewart but it was an easy stop for the former Lions academy keeper. With five minutes left the game was over, substitute Oyibo slotted past Hiddleston after a mistake at the back. Ackroyd did pull one back in injury time with an excellent finish from 20 yards out. It was too little too late though. Onto Warrington away in the Isuzu FA Trophy on Saturday. Come on Guiseley! AB

I think my concern would be that with 40 different players used already its hard for relationships to build on the pitch. I doubt for one minute that we have had anywhere near that number all on the books at one time during this season but constantly having players coming in on loan for a month or signing players who get sold on a month or two later cannot be good for continuity and form in the squad. The only area of the pitch we seem to be performing well in is upfront - its no surprise that with Cassidy, Haw and Qasim we have players who have more or less been with us all season.

I think the squad turnover is pretty typical of a new management team at this level. The quality of player brought in has been improving as changes have been made so I think it’s heading in the right direction. Three defeats on the bounce hurt of course though. I feel that we have played some good football in the last couple of games. Today we were the better team in the second half but Radcliffe had that bought in quality that made the difference. The fundamentals are right this season in my opinion so I’m optimistic that the Danny’s will lead us up the table.
