Obviously it’s been a tough couple of weeks for the club. Making a solid new appointment with no previous connection to Guiseley and with a good recent track record at similar sized clubs feels like the sort of fresh leaf we need to be turning right now. Colour me optimistic again.

I think this is the right appointment at the right time. Experienced campaigner at this level, working with limited funds.
Fresh start, clean slate and all that. History is in the past so let’s look forward to an exciting new chapter as we look to improve our league position.

On paper exactly what we need - experienced manager at this level - been there and done it before. Looks like a decent appointment.

Welcome Paul & Kayde Sad to see Danny & Danny go but there was an inevitability after last week’s decision. He seems a good fit for our club. Buxton & Matlock seem similar to GAFC and he appears to have huge experience at this level and will be “well connected” Add Russ in to the mix then things look a bit brighter than they did last Monday for sure. Im perhaps reading to much into this but Paul was manager at Matlock with Adam Yates, has knowledge of Glossop having managed there so I wonder (putting 2+2 together to make 17) whether he was actually behind the signings last weekend. A lot of the current squad appeared “pally” with Danny so I suspect we will see some turnover of players. How many players did we use during the Lockwood/Cox/St Ledger season?? It feels like we may get close….

Has he served all of his six match ground ban he picked up when Matlock manager? Ban came in at the end of August and he left Matlock on 1 September. Ban was for foul and abusive language and violent conduct at the Hyde v Matlock match in January 2022.

Well at least that proves he's a fighter!

Is it confirmed that Paul will be responsible for transfers or is Russ in effect a Director of Football?
Just to clarify I have no issue at all with Russ on a personal level. I always found him really approachable.

I always found him really approachable. I'm fairly sure the update from the chairmen described him as director of sport (or I read it somewhere at least). I think it makes sense when part time that some of the responsibilities need to be subdivided. I don't like the dual manager setup, I always feel someone needs to be calling the shots. On Paul, I think it's a good appointment. He's got the right credentials. Experience was needed with the position we're in and he's got that, he's also relatively young.

Yeah I thought the previous update was pretty clear about his sporting director role. Guiseley isn't a big organisation with a lot of staff and if he takes some work off the manager's plate then great. Paul looks to be someone with enough experience to know what support he wants from his club, in terms of structure and players.

Well I'm encouraged.
I'll admit I'd never heard of Paul before, but I've not followed the NPL closely and he looks to have an excellent track record.
We know Russ was here before, and last season was bad, but we don't know how responsibilities were divided up between the two managers, so we can't know where to place the blame. One thing that was notable was that nearly all the players who departed over the summer praised Russ. I don't recall any of them saying much about Marcus.
I also think it's time to cut the directors some slack. It's a shame it didn't work out with Danny Ellis and the move was a shock, but they were clearly keen to avoid waiting too long like last time. I don't think they could have provided much more detail than they did without being unprofessional. Clearly there was a mismatch between what they expected and what Danny was delivering, but I don't think it would do anyone any good to elaborate on that in public.

Yeah, It was very noticeable that players were picking out Russ with no mention of Marcus. Kaine was one that springs to mind. I mean.. he has to take a large slice of culpability for last season so his re-recruitment feels a bit odd but if he has a good working relationship with the board then that has to count for something. I don't feel that recruitment was particularly the issue last year, there was a good core of a squad in there let down tactically. I think it's fair to acknowledge that the decision making process and communication from the directors has not been great but on the later they do at least seem to be reactive. At the end of the day, no-one is making a ton of money out of the club and pretty much everyone involved in the club is there for the love of it. Personally, I'm excited for Saturday again!

Problem last season was too many loan players and the team not knowing what formation they were playing week in, week out which led to chaos and confusion and and eventual relegation. Hopefully Paul Phillips will assert his authority from day one and get us moving up the table.

I too was surprised & unhappy with Danny E's departure particularly straight after a good Trophy win. But the board made the decision & put Danny F in interim charge. Sat's game was a poor result against a team who had lost all 9 previous home games, so that hurt (especially as Liversedge are effectively our local rivals in this league).
I assume this & Danny E's removal led to Danny F's decision to leave, which one can understand why.
But the board has appointed a well experienced manager at NPL level with previous success with other clubs getting them into the play-offs more than once, so one can only applaud their decision to appoint Paul & Kayde. Now we all need to get behind the team & cheer them on to hopefully future success on the pitch. The board want promotion back to NLN which is understandable, but to be honest, I'd be happy with a good finish to the season & at least pushing for the play-offs & no "looking over one's shoulder". I'd be happy with that for now based on what's happened so far.
