Well I don’t know about anyone else but I thought that performance was a real boost.
Good to get a valuable win but I think Atherton had some great quality so to win so comprehensively was testament to our game craft.
With three debutants it was always going to be a challenge. And I felt that we rode our luck in patches. But Whitham, Chippendale and Murphy all showed their quality in the final third.
The back three with wing backs worked well. I thought Coker, Ible and Boateng had excellent matches. Daly was also a pivotal ball winner in midfield.
Given the bad weather and other local attractions today 639 was a decent turnout. A solid base of support in my view and a run of good results will bring back the bigger crowds.
A good way to end the year - and a good to go into 2023 with some encouragement and optimism!

Excellent win today at the end of a very enjoyable game of football! Atherton looked the more dangerous side for the opening 20-30 minutes but we saw them off in the second half with some good finishing. Hansen made some good stops in the visiting goal but Mason and our backline also had to be alive to prevent a lively Atherton from breaking the deadlock. Whitham, who once again had an excellent game, was causing them problems all afternoon and was perhaps unlucky to not have his name on the scoresheet. Smith did have to clear off of the line though at the last second to prevent a goal. Daly nearly opened the scoring too with a powerful drive from 20-30 yards out which Hansen did well to save. We nearly scored from the resulting corner but Hansen palmed the ball away. He couldn't stop Smith from opening the scoring though direct from a corner, Hansen attempted to punch the ball away but was too late and the assistant referee judged that the ball had crossed the line. The second half started off really well for us and Whitham came close with a rasping curling shot which went just wide of the post with Hansen beaten. A couple of minutes later though it was 2-0 when a cross found Chippendale and he powered home leaving Hansen for dead. Meppen-Water went close on a couple of occasions and delivered in a dangerous cross. At this point it was all one way traffic and the pressure paid when Whitham's cross found its way to Chippendale who doubled his tally with a well taken goal. Chippendale, Whitham and Haw all had chances to extend our lead but it was a comfortable win to make it six points from six for Paul Phillips. Well played Guiseley! Onto a trip to Bamber Bridge in the new year. Come on Guiseley! AB

An excellent result Whilst i thought we were the better team overall, we did ride out luck in the first half from 20-30mins but once we scored, it actually felt fairly comfortable. I have really high hopes for Paul’s team. His track record suggests success I do hope Lewis Whitham is under contract. Im not sure what Coker did or didn’t do at Liversedge but vs Halifax and today he looks really good. AND special mention to our new No 11 (with what looked like home-made stencil on the shirt) - he looks like he should flatten everyone but actually has a wand of a left foot. Hope we keep him. Finally a big 👏👏👏 to the Colls fans who came in numbers and were mostly good-humoured!

I really enjoyed the game today.
I thought we played really well, though Atherton played their part in providing us a with a very decent game of Boxing Day football.
I pondered long and hard after the game, but struggled to remember the last time we had the points sown up as early as we did today, and had so many chances to even double our final tally such was our domination throughout the second half.
Can we please offer Lewis Whitham the Freedom of Guiseley or free groceries and/or petrol and/or free accommodation in a big, posh flashy apartment (we’ve done it before!) or anything at all just to keep him at the club to entertain us in the way he did today. I think the lads a real gem, and we need to do whatever it takes to keep him in a Guiseley shirt.
Finally, a word of praise for the Atherton fans. Based on what I saw, they were a thoroughly good natured bunch, and though I was surrounded by them at one point, I enjoyed their friendly banter, and thought they were a credit to their club. They’re welcome at Nethermoor any time for me…

Gutted to miss it today but glad I didn’t imagine the performance on Tuesday. I spent the week telling people I thought we’d see a good win today on the basis of that showing.
Have we turned a corner? Feels like we’ve picked up some interesting players and obviously the new manager’s first three games have been increasingly impressive.

Good win today and once we got our noses in front we never looked like losing it. Paul Philips seems to have quickly identified our strengths and weaknesses and has got the midfield playing football which takes the pressure off the defence and has us looking menacing going forward. Tough game at Bamber Bridge coming up on Monday as they are in fifth and have only lost once at home but on yesterdays form I think we are a threat to anyone.

Excellent and much needed win in an entertaining game that both sides contributed to. Agree that the Colls fans played their part but possibly overstayed their welcome in the clubhouse with THAT drum 🤣 Also agree that Whitham is a superstar in the making and we need to get on an improved contract before other clubs come knocking. Courtesy of TerraFirma I had the pleasure of experiencing the hospitality suite with delicious meal and free bar and recommend it as an enjoyable alternative way to watch a game. I can happily confirm there was not a prawn sandwich in sight, just delicious steak pie followed by crumble and custard served cheerfully by the attentive hospitality team. Thank you ladies. All in all a perfect Boxing Day at Nethermoor. Further thoughts and photos feedthemtothelions.wordpress.com/2022/12/27/guiseley-3-atherton-colleries-0/

It was very good yesterday wasn’t it? Callum Chippendale’s first goal was tremendously well taken. Lots of good performances all over the field, and while we rode our luck at times (particularly first half) we were entirely good value for the 3-0 win. Easier said than done of course, but more of that please!

Really enjoyable performance. One thing puzzled me. Why keep the ball in the corner when you are 3 nil up in injury time and dominating the game? Very minor point just curious

Really enjoyable performance. One thing puzzled me. Why keep the ball in the corner when you are 3 nil up in injury time and dominating the game? Very minor point just curious I was puzzled by that too, and the the only reason I could come up with was that Lewis had been beating defenders in tight situations all day, and then swinging in decent crosses. It might have been that he had the confidence to try that again and figured that by drawing two defenders he created a batter chance of a goal. Beyond that I agree with you; it was very puzzling indeed.

Really good game to watch once we had settled down thought we played really well in all departments. Good atmosphere round Nethermoor with a good following from Atherton. Well done to all concerned. Onwards and upwards.
