This season is exhausting.

Scrappy game thought we had enough chances to at least get a point. Our midfield was a bit light against theirs thus we didn’t get a run at their center backs. Missed Cassidy today. Onwards and upwards.

A scrappy game but I think the better side came out on top as winners. The first real chance of the game resulted in the opening goal as Green rifled a shot in off the bottom of the bar leaving Mason with no chance. We came into the game more after that and Whitham forced Goddard into a good save. Whitham had a glorious chance to equalise 25 minutes in when Chippendale’s shot was well saved by the keeper and Whitham had an open net but shot wide. It was the hosts with the next big chance when Lescott looked certain to have equalised but Mason pulled off an excellent save. The second half got off to the perfect start when Murphy’s ball found Whitham in the middle who leveled the scores. Goddard had a couple of saves to make after that but the rest of the half was dominated by Bamber Bridge. They ramped up the pressure and Dawson headed home with under 10 minutes left. We pushed for a second equaliser but couldn’t find it and started 2023 with a loss. We couldn’t make it three league wins on the spin. Onto Nantwich at home on Saturday. Come on Guiseley! AB

Unless he was injured the decision to take Kwame Boateng off just before the break cost us the game imo. Up to then we had played a high press and BB couldn't get find their men, we scored straight after the break and then left gaps all over the field for them to exploit while we struggled to get a foot in the game. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Another unsavoury incident linked to our travelling fans? www.bamberbridge.org/news/club-statement-bamber-bridge-v-guiseley-afc-2751624.htmlHaving attended the game, I'm pretty confident that the 'fans' being escorted out in the 2nd half were not GAFC supporters, but equally worrying, a current National League North player and his dad. I'm sure we'll have an official announcement at some point to support Nathan Pond after this disgusting incident.

.... A little twitter bird told me that Kendall might be heading back to Nethermoor. That was certainly the view of the Bamber Bridge manager. I’m not sure an attacking left back would be a high priority for me given we have George.

Ultimately a frustrating afternoon where Guiseley were excellent for an hour and outplayed for the final half hour when Bamber Bridge were excellent and ran out deserved winners. Having conceded an early goal Guiseley dominated the first half with the high pressing approach pinning the home side in their own half for long periods, although they did look dangerous on the break. Plenty of half chances created although not many clear cut ones. Whitham equalised just after the break following brilliant work by Murphy down the right and I thought Guiseley would press on and continue to dominate the game but instead Bamber Bridge reasserted control and eventually grabbed the winner. It felt like we ran out of steam - the pressing game rarely lasts for 90 minutes and while I think the substitutions were positive moves by manager Phillips they seemed to unsettle the team as they were accompanied by formation changes also. Whitham and Murphy were anonymous in the second half - we missed Cassidy. By my reckoning only two of the starting line up - Smith and Ible were Guiseley players at the start of the season with two more, Kellett and Haw among the substitutes, such has been the pace of change through the first half of the season - I suspect more changes to come. Six more matches scheduled for January, four at home. I think we need a minimum of 12 points from those matches if we are to threaten the playoffs come the end of the season. 70 points were needed for the playoffs last season - i think it will be a few less this season as many teams seem capable of beating each other but I still reckon it would need 38 points from the last 20 matches to give us a chance - unlikely but the team has definitely become more resilient in the last few weeks so not impossible - rest of January’s matches will be critical though.
One final point - I see Steve Kittrick was sacked by Belper today, despite a victory on Monday, seems that is becoming a trend!

Just listened to the interview, Didn’t think Kwame did anything particularly wrong or right but to to take him with just minutes to H-T was an odd call particularly as the next natural RB would have Jameel and we instead moved a CM to RB. I thought we were the better team for the first 65 mins but lost our legs and became overran. The Kwarme sub came too early, the other subs too late and didn’t do anything to take the flow away from Bamber who ultimately deserved their win. Must say their first goal was a cracker. As mentioned earlier, not sure why we would want another LB, that doesn’t seem the problem area. Like last season, we dont score enough goals.

So if he's not doing the job assigned to him would you not get the message across to him or wait until the break to reinforce it, not change the structure of the team and eventully have to move Courtney Meppen-Walters into midfield because he had run out of steam and then rejig the team again when bringing on Andy Kellet in the right back role to replace him?

Apologies if I was unclear. I was agreeing with you. The decision didn’t make sense at the time. Having heard the interview it makes no sense as we had a few minutes until H-T when as you say he could have tried talking through his plans again. Instead he played the “Big I Am” card and humiliated a player unnecessarily. Similarly the nearest player we had to a RB was Jameel so we move our CM instead of changing to a 4-4-2. All this could have been done at H-T. The last 25 mins all the legs had gone yet we waited to make substitutions. All a bit baffling but disappointed with his interview. Not the greatest in terms of man-management. I fear another overhaul of players and a manager who blames others when we lose. I hope I’m wrong
