After a 0-1 half time lead, Guiseley slipped to a 2-1 full time defeat. Commentary pundit, Ivor, made a few perceptive comments near the end which probably sum up our season Ie “When we have a head of steam we can do well, but for the last half hour, we’ve been too passive.” “We have talent in the squad…there is hope!” He also said (words to the effect), if we had an older, wiser, midfielder in the middle, spurring on the team when things go against us, it could make all the difference. Let’s hope the last comment can be fulfilled in a new signing before August and the second comment proves to be true. The first comment certainly does appear true and the ‘approach and attitude’ will need to change, along with an infusion of some new talent in certain areas, if we’re to get out of this league. But, to quote the phrase, ‘Hope springs eternal!’

The season ended in defeat at Lancaster this afternoon. A good first half was followed by a poor second which saw the hosts turn the game on its head. We started well and Chippendale had three or four chances himself to break the deadlock but all the efforts went off target or were blocked. It was Ethan Kachosa who did strike to get his first for the club and it was a well taken finish from the on-loan Sunderland man to curl past Waller. Whelan looked to have added a second late in the half but Waller pulled off a stunning save to tip over. Damba wasn’t untested at the other end though, he made a couple of good stops to deny the hosts. Smales-Braithwaite and Nejman both fired over. The second half saw us start strong with Smales-Braithwaite striking the post. Murphy also went close but it was a false dawn, Lancaster took the points comfortably. David Norris flicked past Damba from a free kick and shortly after the ref pointed to spot much to the amazement of the crowd. Damba looked to have plucked the ball from the feet of a home attacker and after words with his Assistant Referee the decision was overturned. It was delaying the inevitable though, Charlie Bailey slotted past Damba to flip the game. Lancaster push3d ha4d after that but other than a few late stops from Damba they never looked like adding to their lead. We pushed but the hosts comfortably saw out the win the end the season with a loss for the Lions. Onto next season. Come on Guiseley! AB

Not the finish to the season we wanted! I am glad it’s all over. I sincerely hope that we start next season with a strong, committed and settled team that we can get behind and that management can be less critical ( and rude) and more encouraging to players. I do not want a season where we rotate players week in week out. At the heart of GAFC is a family club and we need to get that feeling back! Have a good summer Lions fans. 🦁

Todays last game probably sums up our first NPL season. Showed promised but ultimately weren't good enough. So a bottom half finish for us.
I said before the season a top half finish would be OK for me so we were a bit short. Probably after our Jan/Feb good run, we got a bit too excited but injuries etc put pay to any chance of the play-offs and to be fair, the last 10 games or so we just haven't been anywhere near good enough.
Going to be difficult next season with the likes of Macc in our league, but surely we need to aim for the play-offs Mr PP & the board.

In nearly 20+ years of supporting Guiseley through the elation of promotion, the last game of the season just holding on and even the ignomy of relegation have I ever felt that that was a waste of a season as I do now added to the fact that I barely recognise my club and its ethos,so I sincerely hope that the people who can change things set their minds to doing so. We have I think some individual young talented footballers,as someone else has already said to my mind we need an experienced savy and old head midfielder who isn't afraid of getting stuck in and teach his team mates how to win games,a boss prepared to listen instead of mouthing off wouldn't hurt either.

It definitely has been a very trying and eventful season, and maybe a summer break is exactly what we need! There have definitely been some highs of the season as well. Wins at Macclesfield, Marine and Matlock were notable given no one expected us to get something from them. I also particularly enjoyed when we visited Morpeth, Belper and Marske not just because of the three points but the general atmosphere and afternoon. Home wins over South Shields, FC United, Atherton amd Stafford also spring to mind as really good afternoons/evening and pulling National League Halifax so close as well had us feeling positive towards Christmas. Off the pitch, there is a closeness between players and supporters despite the constant turnover with them coming in to the bar after the game, the Raise the Roof Campaign’s Maroon kit was fun and Brian Dove getting the recognition he deserved for all his service was also brilliant. It has been a very difficult season but there is a platform to build on for next season and hopefully we can be more successful in 23/24.

Not surprised by today’s result. I agree with MrsAnn! Having experienced highs and lows, this season has left me flatter than any other including the Cox year. The turnover of players, the rise of the mini Hooligan, the sacking of Club Legends, the PP interviews are all things I don’t want to revisit. BUT Edward and the Guiseley Radio Crew offer hope which as we all know can only kill you! PP talked much better after last week’s win, Hagie finally got a game and did better than many of our loanees, the Maroon kit is the best kit we’ve ever had, the players are back in the clubhouse etc So we sign back up, await news of signings (all of whom will be amazing) and head to a 1st game of the season away at Morpeth predicting promotion…. As Rojas might say “Futbol is life”

Another season comes to an end and we are not looking at relegation. We are where we thought we would be according to the two managers we’ve had this season. Some highs and lows. But we’ve survived next season will be Paul’s own work which I’m very much looking forward to. Onwards and upwards.

Bottom half finish, closer to relegation than playoffs, and our last four points came from fortuitous set pieces otherwise we would've finished in 15th/16th place. (Let's be honest, we weren't getting anything from those games otherwise)
All in all, I'm glad the season's finally over.
On the upside, there was a spell in the winter where we played some of the most exciting football we have in years, and it seems like the annoying hooligans have been dissuaded from spoiling the games for the fans. Also, the pies really were excellent this year.

I endorse the comment about the pies. Although those at Lancaster yesterday were up there with the best. And more peas!

The pies have definitely been the highlight of the season for me.
There’s been precious little entertainment on the field.
Very strange feeling at the end of the game yesterday.
Bizarrely there seemed more togetherness after the Alfreton game last season than at Lancaster.
At the final whistle, a group of youths who came by train, allegedly caused trouble in the town, then gatecrashed the opportunity for players to be able to properly acknowledge those who’ve loyally supported them all season.
A season to forget.
A lot of work to be done pre season if next season isn’t going to be just a repeat.

I followed all but two of those morons back to Leeds Station last night. Two got off at Shipley. The guard had threatened the others to have BTP waiting for them there. There were numerous complaints about them on the journey. Obviously not local supporters.

Apart from the result a very enjoyable day out. Next season can we have a bus with a toilet on please? Asking for a friend with a very small bladder.
