Game to forget for Guiseley. We scored first but never looked in control. Out played and out fought by the better team. Dust ourselves down and prepare for the next one. Onwards and upwards.

Well, Macclesfield ran riot in the second half and were deserved victors on the day. The first half was quite tight but frantic. Particularly after Kallan Murphy headed us in front, it was an excellent header into the far corner from Kendall's delivery. Battersby was tested on a couple of occasions before the opening goal but the hosts piled on the pressure after the deadlock was broken. They had numerous near misses, chances and plenty of possession, we simply couldn't get out of our half. Nsaka and Ekpolo went close up the other end before Fensome hauled the hosts level. A low ball into the box went nicely the number four who couldn't miss from close range. With five minutes left Macclesfield were in front when Drummond headed in. The liner gave the goal as the ball bounced down off the cross bar. Seven minutes into the second half and their lead was doubled when a corner was headed in by Leigh Whelan into his own goal, Battersby at full stretch couldn't keep it out as it flew into the top corner. Then with 25 minutes left it was 4-1 when Curran's penalty squirmed under Battersby after Whelan had brought down Drummond on the edge of the box. Battersby denied Curran from getting a second with an excellent low stop. But it was former Lion Rooney who added a fifth with 15 minutes left when he picked up a loose ball sent Kendall to the deck and fired in. Drummond had a golden chance to make it six when he rounded Battersby and had the full goal at his mercy but Ollie Brown appeared from nowhere to make an excellent recovery challenge. Onto Ilkeston away on Tuesday night. Come in Guiseley! AB

Starting to see the table really taking shape now though. Macclesfield and Radcliffe will finish top two. Rylands and Worksop are losing steam a bit and join the pack. Eight teams fighting over three places. We’re second bottom of the group on points per game, but that includes the dross at the start of the season.
So. We don’t have to be better than Macclesfield to make the playoffs, we just have to beat all the banana skins and win most of the even games.

Let's hope that this isn't a reflection and reaction by the team to any uncertainty being felt by the players when strong experienced team mates like Devine and Stacey are allowed to go.
I know new managers come with their own ideas but why not at least let things settle and take time to assess individuals before making changes,we've seen enough egos get in the way of results to last most of us a lifetime.

I think it’s more likely the issue that’s existed with 4-4-2 all along - a really good team can easily overwhelm you.

Maybe today is a reality check as sounds like a bad day at the office.
I thought with Whitby & Marine's games in hand we were probably somewhere between 7-10 in the league realistically.
Bit shocked at todays level of defeat even though it was always going to be a tough ask. But as I started above, maybe a reality check on where we are at present.
Onto Ilkeston on Tuesday night which is another difficult game.

After the euphoria of Tuesday night today started with the very disappointing and frankly unbelievable news that Joe Stacey had left the club and then we get thrashed by Macclesfield.
Surely having a skilful and versatile player like Joe in your squad is essential at our level? Seemed out of favour from the moment the new manager was appointed -mystifying.
Ilkeston, Radcliffe and Whitby up next, so a big response required that will go a long way to defining our season.

Shocked that Joe Stacey has been allowed to leave the club unless we have a better replacement nailed on as loan players from National League clubs simply not good enough at this level. Think we need two experienced defenders but where you find them at this stage of the season is anyones guess? Park Avenue have also annunced that Brad Wade has signed for them on a 28 day loan period although Guiseley hardly fet a mention of course as they like to present this as a major signing not a squad player from another team going out to get some much needed match practice.

Very disappointing result but not unexpected - see Rival Thread…. Macc should really be walking this division given their resources. As MrsAnn states a new manager likes to put down their stamp of authority but that is more difficulty when you take over from a winning position. As NFL (Netherfield Lion) said, the loss of Joe is a surprise. I can understand Joe might want to play at a higher level but as far as i can think, he’s been starting and influential. And having spoken to him after the Workington game, a decent and well-educated young man. Our loss is Alfreton’s gain Alongside the loss of Danny Devine, a local lad who’s only played FL, who has decided would rather travel to Lincs for a team below us, then the optics aren’t great. Against it, the signing of Nsaka looks a cracker Anyways back to topic, next two games will set tone for rest of season. Take 2, 3 or 4 points then I think we look up but take 0 points (a possibility) then we could start to see a squad overhaul like last season and reassess our aims of play-off position. I genuinely hope not. We played our best team today and were well beaten but as per Nik and above, most of us would probably expected to lose at Macc if asked before the season started

He has been one of our most effective performers so far. This is the same player who clattered the perimeter fence pre season, split his head open, but still reappeared 2nd half in a friendly! I’m also told that on his debut he collected 46% of the Alfreton supporters MOTM votes. Together with Devine leaving for Gainsborough, I really hope we aren’t about to descend into the loanee merry-go-round again?

It was always going to be an uphill task yesterday, and it was very clear that Macclesfield are a quality outfit who looked very dangerous- plenty of quick, agile forward thinking players and looked solid at the back. It does beg the question as to why they have had so many below-par results so far this season.
After our early goal, we faced a barrage of attacks from them, and although we clung on for quarter of an hour, the equaliser looked inevitable. Macclesfield had a bit of luck- they were really fortunate not to be down to ten men whilst we still lead 1-0, as there was a clear dive in the penalty box by an already booked Kane Drummond which should have seen him receive a second yellow card (the video highlights support that).
That being said no qualms about the result, sometimes you have to accept you were beaten by a side who were far superior on the day. I don’t think we played particularly badly but after the unfortunate own goal, we seemed bereft of confidence and a Macclesfield side flying high would always be difficult to resist.
Same position as this time last week now, needing a reaction from the players on Tuesday night.

In an interview in the Non-League Paper Macclesfield manager Alex Bruce states that Oumar Niasse signed for them after joining a 9-a-side group, comprising mainly ex-professionals, that play together during the week and he joined Town because he just wanted to play football plain and simple.
