A cracking day out in East Yorkshire as the Lions ran out comfortable 3-1 winners. We started fast and on the front foot with Kendall's cross just evading Longbottom in the middle and finding Trialist on the other wing, then he put in a great ball which Longbottom flicked goalwards but it was an easy stop for Bottomley in the home goal. Ackroyd was next to test the keeper but his low shot tricked into Bottomley's hands and Trialist stung his palms. Thewlis then shot wide whilst Trialist continued to impress with a blistering run down the right hand side causing Bottomley a moment of panic as he parried the cross into danger but the home defence reacted quickly to boot the ball clear. Then our best moment of the game so far fell after 35 minutes when we counter attacked and played Thewlis in behind, Bottomley saved his powerful shot and Longbottom couldn't find the target with his attempt on the rebound. A minute later the hosts were in front completely against the run of play, a turnover in possession saw Ferriby launch a counter attack where Aynsley sweeped home the loose ball after an excellent block by Odunston. This seemed to wake us up, we immediately went up the other end and hauled ourselves level when Longbottom curled a shot into the top corner. That was the last of the chances of an action packed first half. The second continued in the same fashion when just one minute in we won a corner, Longbottom put a delivery into the box which Aynsley headed past Bottomley and into his own goal. Longbottom had a chance to double his tally five minutes later but his header went just past the post. Then with 20 minutes left we wrapped up the win when Trialist finished off Gabriel Johnson's layoff in style to extend our lead. Grzelak nearly added more shine to the win but his shot was blocked on the line and Johnson saw his volley saved by Bottomley. Lufudu was next to come close when he cut in from the right but curled his shot just over. Grzelak came close again when his cross forced home defender Johnson to head over his own bar to deny the midfielder a goal. That brought to an end a good game in East Yorkshire. Well played Guiseley! Onto the proper stuff next week at home to Workington. Come on Guiseley! AB

Really encouraging afternoon. I thought we played some really positive football and I enjoyed the fluid attacking play. North Ferriby are a strong side and clearly on their way back up. I’ve always enjoyed trips there and think their ground has similar elements to Nethermoor.
Glad that pre season is over though - there is nothing better than competitive football- Workington at home has a nice ring to an opening day. A late Jake Lawlor winner would certainly roll back the years!
