Workington at home

We start the season on home ground against Workington on Saturday.

Tickets will be available to purchase at the turnstiles with cash only at turnstiles 4 & 6 and by cash or card at turnstiles 1 & 2.

The Lions’ Diner will be open on Saturday and there will be a “pop-up” catering unit at the car park end of the ground, selling pies, snacks, hot and cold drinks. The hatch in the clubhouse will be closed until the end of September, for Saturday home games only, due to cricket matches taking place at the same time.

The desk will be open in the clubhouse tomorrow afternoon with Paul taking bookings for the first three away games of the season, you can also join The 1909 Club and get your 50/50 Matchday Cash Draw tickets.

BUT we can use all 5 subs according to NPL

Well, I thought that was a great performance. The most promising thing was how solid the defence looked. Once they stopped smashing nothing diagonal balls from the full backs they played some really good football. Bodes well.

Great start to our season. An attacking Guiseley side with great team spirit. Two cracking goals and strong defending. Full of promise.

Great result with great goals at key moments in the game. I think we’ll get better - there’s a few key areas of the pitch where you could see they’re just starting the process of getting to know each other. But we’ve got some good players and can afford to feel optimistic I think!

Get in there - top of the table! A very encouraging performance. It will be interesting to see how Guiseley fare away at Robbie Savage's Macclesfield(TM) next weekend.

Great victory, and a good performance too - particularly the second half.

Can anyone confirm if Sam Walters came on today - I was sure I heard him coming on but the Twitter updates don't seem to reference this sub (or indeed Gabriel Johnson coming on either).

Is Walters a new signing? Or possibly an academy graduate? Cant find any detail on our website about him. Cheers!

It's good to see an academy graduate being given a chance. It's a shame it literally only lasted seconds - but there again, that's sometimes happens for other first occasions.

And I presume there were another couple of firsts - all 5 named substitutes were used - and I think they replaced players numbered 7 to 11.

Great point. I think in all our history that was the first time we have used 5 subs in a competitive match. I also enjoy your observation of 7-11.

Really encouraging start to the season. I thought we played with purpose and conviction. There were moments in the first half when we were attempting moves that didn’t work out but you could see the intent. It feels as though the team will gel over the coming weeks and become stronger. Two brilliant goals, Longbottom’ was a superb free kick, while Thewlis’s pass and Lufudu’s finish were excellent.

Credit to Workington I thought they were set up well and caused us problems. I think they will compete pretty well.

Good performances throughout the team, and a great feeling around the place. Perfect way to kick off the season.

That was the best start of the season (since the last best start but seriously we were good and I thought they weren’t bad. Jake L was immense and received a pint for his endeavours (Moretti if you wish to contribute to I’ll buy you a pint for every game we win campaign!). Mbeka and Prince appeared to have a lot of fun playing together. Lefudu is better as a RW than a RB and took his goal very well. Longbottom’s freekick was a pearler but his touch on the line prevented Jordan a deserved goal. Thought Odon was good. Have I missed anyone. We were proper good today. And news from Bows that Jamie S has signed and we have a proper 40-goal-a-season-striker signing (Im thinking Wally although OJ was clearly present today) life doesn’t get better (in terms of GAFC fandom. Clearly life has nothing to do with football and can take twists for al of all)

Oh yeah, Lawlor was my MOTM actually, apart from one moment he lost a yard to someone or other in the second half he looked totally at ease.
