It’s been said a lot this season but previous Guiseley teams would have been allowed to slump out of that game. To my mind, that they weren’t and they didn’t says a lot about the players and management. Another cliché is that if you can’t win the game don’t lose it. For twenty minutes or so in that second half the team roused themselves, played to their full potential and were unlucky not to score one or two more than they did. Good on them. And in case anyone is wondering (which I doubt), the scoreboard appears to have fallen foul of Storm Bert. It’ll be looked at by an electrician this week, and with any luck will be back in action next Saturday.

Today showed the benefit of a strong subs bench.
Harsh to be 2 nil down but it was a different game after the subs were introduced. Thewlis looked sharp and Whitham looked a menace as we had Warrington back pedalling and time wasting.
It was noticeable that Warrington celebrated their second like it was game over.
They clearly underestimated the resolve of this squad.

It was both two points dropped and a really well earned point won. The game completely changed with the subs and the sooner Thewlis can play like that for 90 minutes the better.
We struggled a little with people playing out of position so actually the sooner everyone is back and fit the better. But even with some missing, we were absolutely terrific when we tore into them and I’m glad the goals came because they were well deserved.

A slow start today cost us at Warrington Rylands took the lead late in the half before doubling their ascendency against the run of play in the second but we kept going and fought back to earn what could be a priceless point! Rylands started the game really well and had a lot of posession but Cracknell had little to do. We did have a couple of chances but everytime we picked up the ball in and around the visitors' box they threw their bodies at the ball to block attempts on goal. Ekpolo and Emmett both saw shots drift just wide of goal. With five minutes left Rylands got a penalty, Waring saw his shot saved by Cracknell but the rebound looped up and an attacker went to ground under pressure from Ollie Brown with a open goal at his feet. Hardcastle stepped up and slammed the ball into the bottom corner despite falling over when he took the spot kick, it was a very good penalty with plenty of power. The second half started better for us than the first half did and Lufudu's teasing cross just needed a touch but no one could get on the end of it and the chance was gone. Approaching the hour mark the visitors made it 2-0 through sub Massanka. Seven minutes later and we pulled one back after Bower had made a double substitution. Johnson and Thewlis were introduced and it was latter who struck to half the deficit, he cut in from the right hand side and curled his shot in past Pilling in the away goal. With 12 minutes left the Lions were level, Longbottom's free kick from deep bounced into the top corner via the post. Despite plenty of pushing and relentless pressure Warrington Rylands held out for a point. Unlucky today lads! Onto Whitby Town at home on Saturday. Come on Guiseley! AB

A first half where we struggled to find our form. Warrington dominated play and we looked as though having a week without a game we had lost our impetus. After the substitutions in the second half there was an immediate uplift in spirits and performance and we deservedly earned a draw and a hard earned point.

First ever game for me and my two sons. After a slow start it was a cracking game. We stood behind the goal second half and it was a great comeback. My 13 year old asked if he could go again on the way out. Might have to work a bit on the 9 year old.

Do come again and get chatting with people if you can - we’re a pretty friendly club I’d say and it’s even nicer to come when you start recognising faces. The players and management come for a drink in the clubhouse afterwards too which surprises people at first. All the different parts of the ground have their benefits - the tired grumbles of the main stand, the more vocal support behind the goal, the true believers who like to be in earshot of the benches to understand both sides’ tactics…

It was still 2 points dropped against a team in the relegation places.
Still missing a proper no9 in Farrell's absence and some proper composure and calm decision making in the final third.

That clip made me chuckle. And you’re not wrong, for large chunks of yesterday we were second best and that has to be of concern. But it’s nice to see we have players who can come in and impact a game positively. And I miss Leo Farrell too, but Will Longbottom does keep racking the goals up, doesn’t he? (Albeit I grant you, more so when he’s not filling that number 9 role, more so when he’s allowed out a bit wider) I must’ve seen a hundred games where Guiseley had chances but conceded two goals and retreated into themselves and lost 3 or 4 nil. I didn’t see that yesterday, and that has to be a positive. And Rylands have no business being as far down the table as they are. Neil Reynolds may never get his money back from that Charm School, but he’s doing a decent job there. They won’t be anywhere near the bottom four come May.

Aye, you are correct in everything you say. It's encouraging we salvaged a draw and tbf I was surprised Rylands are so far down the league on that performance, apart from that Sunday league rotund number 3. They obviously came with a game plan to ruffle a few feathers and the ref seemed out of his depth to deal with it consistently.
It was just frustrating to see so many attacks fizzle out when with a bit more care or a proper poacher we could have easily finished them off. There were also instances of short corners with no clear plan in the last 10 minutes thst ended up being easily defended.
I personally think guiseley should have a striker on their Xmas list, especially if Farrell is not returning. I'm thinking strikers like Dave Brown or Wally from yesteryear.

Rylands had a reputation for their large budget previously, and it didn’t look yesterday like a bargain basement squad, they had experienced players of proven quality. Wonder why they were so bad at the start of this season.

I must’ve seen a hundred games where Guiseley had chances but conceded two goals and retreated into themselves and lost 3 or 4 nil. I didn’t see that yesterday, and that has to be a positive. I'd go one step further. Over the last few years following Guiseley's promotion to the NL, most of the games where we went 1-0 down, I didn't think we'd even get a draw. Worse still, most of the games where we went 1-0 up I didn't think we'd hold on even for a draw. Yesterday, even at 2-0 down I was confident that we'd get a draw, perhaps even a win, when the subs came one.
The management team have done a great job in instilling a sense of self-belief in the players, such that even a much depleted squad keep giving their all until the final whistle.
