I really don’t understand what we were trying to achieve today. We played a weakened team against one of the better sides in the division with an inexperienced centre back up against Declan Howe, one of the better strikers in the division. Mistakes led to two first half goals to effectively concede the match and we then brought on the players who were (presumably) left out of the starting line up for a rest over the course of the remainder of the game during which we didn’t really lay a glove on Gainsborough who ran out very comfortable winners. Meanwhile, Stockton were losing at Hebburn meaning that if we had won today third place and a home playoff against Stockton would have been assured and the FC United match would have been irrelevant. Instead we find ourselves still in third place going into the final league match of the season needing a win to ensure we are at home in the playoff match against Stockton. At least it is in our own hands. We have no form or momentum at present and there seems to be an expectation that we will suddenly find that form in a play off game. I would play a strong side against FC United and try to win the game as that might give us the best chance in the play off itself and it’s a last chance to put a decent performance together before the playoff match.

Agree CDP it was a bizarre selection - at this point in the season we need momentum - today looked an experiment which went horribly wrong. Hope we can do the necessary next week now - surely todays form cannot ( must not ) be repeated . Todays game must have looked awful for a first attendee.

10 years ago I had the same misgivings as above as we didn't take the last 2 league games seriously. I had to eat humble pie as we won the play offs. Let's hope Mark Bower is right again

We fell to a defeat against a Gainsborough side who looked well up for the game and ran out deserved winners. The visitors got a penalty after 17 minutes and Declan Howe made no mistake from the spot burying the ball into the bottom corner. Six minutes later Butroid doubled the visitors’ tally for the afternoon with a well taken finish from the left wing. We edged into the game more after that point but David Robson in the home goal remained relatively untested. Ollie Brown’s tackle probably did count as a shot on target but more by luck than judgement! Emmett shot over from a narrow angle as the half came to a close. The second half was more of the same as we struggled to really break down a resolute home side. We had a lot of corners but nothing really came of them. Gainsborough looked dangerous on the counter attack but there was nothing of note in the second half from a side who looked happy with their two goal lead. We move on to FC United on Saturday. Come on Guiseley! AB

Agree with above comments about the game today. Two bad mistakes gifted the goals and don't think their keeper had a real save to make other than collect a few crosses.
I'm hoping we are giving Stockton & Worksop a feeling of they just need to turn up in the play-off games, but think they won't take our form for granted.
Really hope we can match Stocktons result on Saturday to get home field advantage as their pitch, I believe, is a good advantage for them and we may well struggle.
Hope Mark & Danny's game plan pays off. If not, we need them to go again for us next season. I believe it is really important the management team are here again for at least next season whatever division we are in.

If you want to give the reserve keeper a run out, surely you start him? Or was Cracknell supposed to get a standing ovation there?
All we've learnt there is that we really can't do without the key players.

Completely mystified by today’s team selection. Probably one of the worst performances of the season. A missed opportunity to secure a home tie. We can only hope that this was the dress rehearsal that went embarrassingly badly wrong and that on opening night ( play offs) we put in a perfect performance!? Come on Guiseley we are better than this! 🦁

Probably worth pointing out that if Ashton beat Workington and Stockton lose to Hyde, we would actually play Ashton at home in the semi-final and not Stockton. Unlikely yes but certainly not impossible.

If I was a first time fan I’d have said this was a pre season friendly with lots of changes not pushing for promotion. Very perculier set up. I’d personally like us going in to the playoffs in form rather than testing new systems new players. Not sure what the strategy is and I’ve been to 90% plus games this season. It’s a mystery

Thoughts on today in no particular order;
Sam Bentley is a much better footballer than today’s performance suggests. Whenever he’s come off the bench, he’s looked pretty composed, and has a good first touch. He’s also mainly come into the midfield. Not to say he couldn’t be a centre back, though.
But today he just struggled a bit to settle, and never recovered from giving the penalty away. It was a bad day for him, and I hope he doesn’t beat himself up too much - he’s got a lot more football left to play for Guiseley.
He wasn’t helped mind, by the general underperformance of his team mates, particularly in the first half. Too many loose passes, too easily knocked off the ball, and not enough forward momentum.
I for one am not too concerned about whether we play at home or away in the semi - there’s an argument that some of our best performances have actually been away from Nethermoor this season anyway.
Odd to see the keeper subbed - no suggestion that Cracknell was injured, so only to give the loan keeper some game time. (I don’t know, maybe it was a contractual thing. Given it happened bang on 60 minutes, it was almost certainly pre planned) As it was Dallimore had very little to do in the end.
Positives are game time for Emmett and Odunston (Lucas a bit unlucky to get MOTM in my opinion), Stockton lost so it’s more or less as you were, still in our own hands, and a much improved second half.
Joe Cracknell was a good shout for player of the year, the Raise the Roof team more than worthy winners of the volunteer of the year award, and the only outrage was despite buying more pitch squares than I ever have before I STILL didn’t win the draw. Bah.

Felt sorry for Sam Bentley. The victim of a bizarre experiment and with that wonderful gift of hindsight, misguided one in my view.
As he acknowledged to me , he’s not a centre back at this level.
He’s never let us down in midfield and it was sad to see him cut a forlorn figure watching on in the second half. Hopefully someone puts an arm round him in training this week.
All in all a very downbeat day when we could have secured 3rd spot and rested players next week.
Of course when we win the play off final I’ll be the first to say today’s starting lineup and overall approach was a stroke of genius 🤣.
In Mark and Danny We Trust

A real stinker of a performance today - the only positives are that today's result had virtually no bearing on the playoffs (thanks to Stockton's loss). Thankfully this has come today rather than in the all important playoff game.
Said it before many times - we have virtually no threat upfront when Longbottom is either not playing or is having an off day - that was painfully apparent again today. I worry this will be our undoing this season - we never replaced Farrell when his loan ended.

A game to forget. More about squad management than the game itself. Understandably so I guess given that there are bigger games to come. Agree that as a consequence Sam Bentley looked exposed against Declan Howe (though should be taken into the context where Sam has put in some notable performances and was thrust into a makeshift side today).
It’s a long time since we were heading into the playoffs and so easy to forget, otherwise forgettable games, ahead of the semis. I recall disappointing performances against Bishop Stortford, Hinckley United, North Ferriby and Oxford City. All pale into insignificance compared to the play offs proper.
Stockton and Ashton have stuttered across the line in recent weeks. It gives me no confidence that they will not come good. The sane should be said for us.
Onwards and upwards!

I've got that down as the worst team performance since Paul Phillips took his team to Atherton.
