Hello and welcome to the 17th edition of my weekly blog.
I was going to compare the two festive Bradford Park Avenue matches this week but I could not be at the Horsfall due to my dad’s illness.
I have therefore decided to do something a little different and look at the grounds I would like to visit outside of the Unibond League.
WEMBLEY
This is a brand new, big ground with a fantastic atmosphere which is number one on this list.
The pitch is just breathtaking and the builders defied all odds to build the country an arena they can be proud of.
While it would have been amazing to see Guiseley visit the old Wembley, seeing them play at the new one would be simply awesome.
Imagine the scene. Otleybard, Richard, Yeadoner and the likes shouting their hearts out while James shakes hands with everybody in the stadium and bags himself a place as a TV pundit.
It would be a great achievement for the club to play at the ground in any cup competition.
FRATTON PARK
There’s just something about this hard to visit Premiership pitch that makes you want to be there.
Whether it’s the fact Chris Kamara goes bonkers while he’s stood among their terraces, the guys with the drums and bells or the loud chants, Pompey is the place to be on a weekend afternoon.
It’s smaller than some lower league club stadiums, holds less fans than my beloved Leeds and there’s something about the atmosphere you just can’t pinpoint.
It’s a shame there’s now a roof over the away stand as I wouldn’t want a repeat of standing in the rain at Sheffield watching Guiseley fall at the feet of their Division One North conquerors.
NOU CAMP/CAMP NOU
Now that’s a stadium.
A friend of mine once visited Spain and came back with some fabulous panoramic views of the Barca home. It’s just stunning.
I’m saying that having not even visited it. Imagine what it’s like being there.
Unlike Fratton Park, the Nou Camp’s pitch is so much bigger which gives the place a different atmosphere altogether but that’s not to say one atmosphere is better than the other.
This nearly 100,000 seater arena is top on my list of foreign stadiums I wish to visit. Who knows, if BrotherBrid gets the money together, we might go. Or I could just beg for the cash from Otleybard.
That does it for this week’s blog.
I think it’s about time for a half season review so next week I’ll do just that.
