Adam’s Weekly Blog no. 22
Hello and welcome to the 22nd edition of my weekly blog.
With the much anticipated transfer deadline day having been and gone, this week I’m taking a look at some of the biggest signings this January/February.
ROBBIE KEANE – LIVERPOOL TO TOTTENHAM – UNDISCLOSED FEE
This seemed to be both the biggest story and arguably the most likely move on the cards this past month.
The clearly unsettled and disgruntled Keane simply wanted to play football again having been shunned out of the Liverpool line up.
Where better to get that than at Tottenham, his former stomping ground?
I feel Keane was badly treated in that he often found himself either on the bench or out of the side completely. It seemed obvious he wanted to leave Merseyside after all this.
I think Keane will make an impact at a revitalised Spurs outfit where he can actually compete for a place in the starting 11 rather than sit it out on the sidelines.
ANDREI ARSHAVIN – ZENIT ST PETERSBURG TO ARSENAL - £15 MILLION
Unlike the Keane deal, this transfer went on well beyond the 5pm deadline on February 2 due to various paperwork issues.
One unfortunate Sky Sports News reporter found himself stumped outside the Emirates in the snow for two straight days while the nuts and bolts of the transfer were finalised.
Arsenal will benefit tremendously from Arshavin’s pace and strike power having lost Cesc Fabregas to injury earlier this season.
Like Keane, however, Arshavin was clearly unhappy with his former Russian outfit and Arsenal have reaped the rewards through his signature.
He is definitely capable of making an impact the size of those made by the likes of Gunners legends Bergkamp and Henry.
JO – MANCHESTER CITY TO EVERTON – LOAN SIGNING
With Victor Anichebe now seemingly isolated from the Blues team due to a bust up with boss David Moyes and Everton running short on strikers, Jo has a chance to shine at Everton.
The problems are that he only notched 3 goals in 12 games for Manchester City and he’s lacking match fitness having played second fiddle to the likes of Robinho, Elano and Vassell.
Hopefully a fresh start with the Toffees will revitalise him and rapidly improve both his match fitness and strike rate.
I feel Jo will improve in front of the Goodison faithful and will get himself noticed on Merseyside in a team which has achieved some fantastic results with no recognised strikers.
He will slot in well alongside midfield come striking maestros Tim Cahill and Marouane Fellaini should he be given a good chance to strut his stuff.
Ming you, I don’t think BrotherBrid or FatherBrid would switch the team round following their FA Cup success over the red half of the city!
That’s it for this week folks.
As always we welcome your comments and opinions.
Next week, I will tell you why I prefer the FIFA series over the Pro Evolution Soccer games.
