Hello and welcome to the 32nd edition of my weekly blog.
Following what has been a whirlwind week for the club we now face our final two home games.
The upcoming matches at Fort Nethermoor against Marine and North Ferriby, who both occupy mid table positions in the league, could not be more crucial as we bid to win a place in the play-offs.
The race to compete for the final promotion spot couldn’t be tighter as Guiseley sit seventh in the table, just two points behind Nantwich in fifth.
What follows is my take on what I hope won’t be the final action we’ll see at Nethermoor this season.
MERSEYSIDERS LOOKING TO CAST DOUBTS ASIDE
Usually Guiseley v Marine encounters provide an entertaining 90 minutes and although the Scouse outfit are 13th, they will be out to dent their rival’s hopes in the play off lottery.
Marine could still be relegated to Division One North if results go against them as they are only seven points clear of 19th placed Witton Albion.
They therefore have every reason to pick up three points against us to halt any worries.
BrotherBrid thought that because of their home history against sides lower in the league, Guiseley would lose to Worksop if they won the League Cup.
But he was emphatically proven wrong as we hit six past the side that sit just one place below Saturday’s opponents.
If we put in a similar performance against Marine and attack from the referee’s first whistle, there is no reason why we cannot beat Marine.
We are full of confidence having seen off Whitby 2-0 on Easter Monday (although if you believe the Telegraph and Argus website, Leeds United defeated the seasiders).
As the home fans were treated to a 6-0 mauling last time out, they will be fully behind the side in their quest to reach the play offs and hopefully promotion.
FERRIBY PLAYING FOR PRIDE
Hull based North Ferriby United lie in 10th position and four points short of their nearest rivals Ashton with just several games to play.
They should therefore be looking for a solid finish to their mixed season.
But Guiseley cannot afford to take any Unibond Premier team for granted and must look to send Ferriby back to the coast with devastating effect.
Often games against mid table sides can catch out those higher in the league.
Although Ferriby have little to play for they are still only three places of short of Guiseley albeit with a huge points difference.
We are on a solid run at the moment and must continue this otherwise our play off push will be over before the season’s finished.
It is simply vital that we win.
It wouldn’t go amiss if Ferriby could do us a favour in their home match against Nantwich either!
That does it for this week folks!
Next week I will reflect on these two games and see if we are still in with a shot at the play-offs.
