Hello and welcome to the 33rd edition of my weekly blog.
This particular issue is a tad late due to our internet being down last night but in true lol spirit we got it fixed and are able to bring you the blog this morning.
This week I am looking back at our home games against Marine and North Ferriby as well as assessing our current league position.
FORT SINKS MERSEY INVADERS
We dominated the first half of this 4-0 hammering by showing the Nethermoor fans some of the best football they’re likely to see at the ground.
Sure, the penalty awarded against Marine’s Freddie Potter which subsequently saw him sent off seemed controversial but Anthony Lloyd got the ball rolling for the confident home side.
Two more goals in the next ten minutes from the prolific pairing of the two James’, Walshaw and Hanson, saw us 3-0 up by the half hour.
A dreaded scoreline at Guiseley following the Sheffield and Ossett cup games this season, fans could have feared a Marine comeback.
But Guiseley created chance after chance and were unfortunate not to go further ahead before the break.
A clearly demoralised Marine came back in to the game a little in the second half but barely threatened Aaron Ratchford’s net.
Danny Ellis’ 90th minute header saw us leave with a clinical 4-0 scoreline that continued our fantastic run which has happened just at the right time.
STUTTERED FERRIBY WIN
Following an awesome performance against Marine, Ferriby provided a different type of opposition and Guiseley stuttered to a 2-0 win.
When right-back Lloyd again hit home a penalty early on following ex Nethermoorian Sam Denton’s trip of Walshaw, it looked like Guiseley would once again blitz their opponents.
Instead we saw signs of the old style of play fans hate seeing in the long ball game where Guiseley didn’t seem to have a midfield.
As a consequence we only took a 1-0 lead in to the half time break.
The second half wasn’t much better as Ferriby created a number of chances that could easily have seen them back in the game.
The visitors looked the better footballing side but when Hanson headed home from a Simeon Bambrook free kick we extended our lead.
But this performance was far from the quality we’ve all come to expect in the past few weeks and we really need to pick it up if we are to reach the play offs.
FOURTH NEEDING A POINT
Today’s match at Witton Albion is certainly an intriguing one for both clubs.
Most importantly where we are concerned, Guiseley need just a point to be sure of a play-off berth.
But Albion, despite being sure to finish in the relegation zone as the league stands, may not go down due to issues with Cammell Laird’s ground.
Currently sitting in 20th one point behind Whitby, should Witton finish 19th in the highest relegation spot they could avoid going down by virtue of Cammell Laird’s ground problems.
In this respect, Guiseley face a tough battle against one of the league’s strugglers and so are no means home and dry just yet.
The match will likely be fiercely contested and prove a battle for all concerned.
Should the unthinkable happen and Guiseley lose, we are then reliant on FC United of Manchester, Bradford Park Avenue and Kendal Town all losing.
Put simply, I feel we have to go for the win against our Manchester opponents rather than settle for a point.
That’s it for this week campers!
Next time I will pick my favourite moments of the season. By then we’ll hopefully be looking forward to some play-off semi-finals!
