Hi All,
Was at the game today, and although I felt that Guiseley played the better football, it was apparant that players like Askham weren't in the game at all. This makes me wonder if players such as Lee are a luxury in the Unibond / early FA cup rounds. Although he clearly has the skills to pay the bills...in recent games he has been muscled off the ball far too much...
let me know your thoughts...
Cheers

Although he clearly has the skills to pay the bills...in recent games he has been muscled off the ball far too much... This is the exact phrase I used during the game! I said ... he has the skills to pay the bills but not the strength to push the return envelope into the letterbox. Our balance in 4-3-3 looked good today, he could play on the right of a front three where Tucky was, but he isn't offering enough else to warrant a place in a midfield four. Shame because he looks like he's growing in confidence and taking men on.

He had a superb game at Burscough but since then seems to have played with much less freedom and confidence. It's as if he is not yet convinced that he is ready to attack teams with 100% conviction, frightened of making a mistake?
Perhaps against the more physical teams his qualities would be best used as a substitute later in the game at least until he gains confidence? A role that was probably best suited to David Brown too.

I felt sorry for him yesterday. He looked like a boy in a mans world in that the war was going on around him, and he couldn't catch the pace or pulse of a very competitive game...It's a real shame because he obviously has a bag of tricks to dazzle the waiting public, but is the Unibond the place to really showcase his glittering wares?...I'd certainly persevere with him, and he needs to know that we're all with him as gets the measure of a very competitive league...

I suggest Askham starts upper body training with Lee Tuck. The guy has the squarest shoulders I've seen on a shorter guy.

I understand that Askham is only in his mid teens so it's clearly too early to judge his long term value. Perhaps a few weeks in the reserves under Vinnie would give him the confidence and guidance he needs. but please let's not write him off yet and then find that, in a couple of seasons, he's a worldbeater somewhere else.

Is he that young???
It's no wonder he's not able to physically compete! I assumed he was mid-20s!
He has to do what Ronaldo did when he first came to the Prem - add some serious athleticism to his bag of tricks and he'll be better than any opposing full-back at this level.

Am I imagining it, or is Adam's spelling actually getting worse?

God didnt realise he was that young Lee Tuck doesnt control the ball well enogh 4 me it just flys off his foot AB As long as he keeps putting in the effort that he's put in on every game I've seen him in this year, and as long as the ball keeps flying off his foot into the net like it did yesterday he'll do for me!...

His punctuation isn't that great, either, OB, especially his lack of an apostrophe.
Can we find him a copy of 'Eats Shoots and Leaves'?

If I thought he'd read it, he could gladly have mine.

Must be a bit of a culture shock from Premiership Academy to Unibond? Clearly has the talent perhaps just needs the time to adjust to the physical aspects of life in the lower leagues.

Give the lad a chance..unibond is all kick and rush so its nigh on impossible for an attacking player to get into a game unless he puts himself about alot in the air and in the tackle and hes not that type of player. Hes nosedived through the leagues so it makes you wonder if no one has put their arm round him and said here son have the ball into feet and take players on..sadly the unibond is not that sort of place either but he has some class and as the season goes on he will become a very good assett.
