13 mins - referee gave a penalty to Guiseley and Lloyd had placed the ball and was about to take it when the referee changed his mind and gave a corner. Burton has gone close Seeing as this hasn't really been discussed yet, can I just add that this was NEVER a penalty. I was pleased to get it at first but then as we realised how farcical it was, we had to applaud the ref for taking the liner's advice in changing his mind.

But then again, the clear tug on Burton five minutes later...

Yep. Shocker. And Burton was getting fouled quite a bit too - which is why he then started getting a bit naughty himself in the first half.
Wally's excuse that they were trying to wind him up doesn't wash really, he was saying that to the ref five minutes before he got his marching orders, plenty of time to get his head in the game and calm down. Bit of a Jens Lehmann moment.

I was suprised at Durham to be honest, considering they are the whipping boys of the league they aren't a bad side, they're all just very young and light weight.
The ref and liners clearly spoilt the game, they couldn't get a grip of it so it was dragged down to a scrappy level of football, blowing for fouls every time one of the Durham lads fell over.
At the end of the day 3 points is what matters and the other results have gone our way.

I was saying this was a perfect game for Askham to make an impact seeing as they didn't have the physical defenders that other teams have.

A couple of posts saying Wally was, well, a wally, but isn't it more serious than that? The first booking for needlessly getting involved after a foul and pushing/shoving the guy on the floor. Clear booking whatever you think of the refs overall performance. Second booking an utterly stupid lack of discipline - for "dissent" read swearing at the linesman, when for all intents and purposes the game is in the bag despite collectively not playing very well. He's a good player certainly, but also something of a liability and against better opposition that lack of discipline could have cost us dear.

Well it's obvious why Walshaw is called Wally, it's about time someone had a serious word in the young mans ear. He is letting the team down badly, back less than 3 weeks after 35 days suspension and he's off again plus he has had 2 or 3 yellows as well in that short time, is he ever going to learn.

Apart from the fact we won, there was little positive to take away from today's game. Guiseley passed the ball poorly, missed far too many chances, players shot at goal when they should have passed to a colleague, and vice versa, lots of careless mistakes, an utterly stupid sending off, and second best in terms of effort and application for periods of the game.
After playing superbly at Kendal and losing, we have been pretty poor in the subsequent two games and won both - funny old game.....
We will need to be much much better on Tuesday at Retford and on Saturday at Frickley.
Agree with others that it definitely wasn't a penalty - one of the few things the officials got right.

Often in this sort of match it's difficult to raise your game. For long periods it looked like a training game and once Durham got a taste of blood, they went for the jugular. To see Wally and Burts getting lured into pushing little kids around concerned me. Even when we scored it was all a bit subdued. I'm sure we'll be up for it at Retford on Tuesday though.
