Heard a whisper that the Reserves were playing Barnoldswick today. Was that our Reserves against Barnoldswick's first team or their reserves? Could anyone let us know how we went on, please? Also, do we have any other friendlies arranged, either home or away?...

Mick was really good at letting us know things, but I'm sure Rachel will be letting us know the score before too long...

A very understrength Reserves beat an experienced Barnoldswick Town Reserves 3-2 in what was a good run out for them. They were missing Jamie Cairns and Josh Arnold - both injured in training; Sam Whittaker - taken ill overnight with a stomach bug; Danny Todd - awaiting an operation on his shoulder; Charlie Beckwith and Will Hutton - gone travelling; Will Boye - back in London; and some who have gone to pastures new in the paid ranks. Adam Edwards, home from his coaching post in the USA, opened the scoring for us with an exquisite goal from a tight angle. Skipper Liam Robinson added the two goals Ressec had demanded from him pre-match. Man-of-the-match was Danny Berry who gave a commanding display at centre-back alongside Sam Jacomb while Liam Robinson as usual ran his heart out up front and of course netted two fine goals in the process. Young Sam Hasmi made an excellent start in a Guiseley shirt starting off in the right-back role while the two teenage goalkeepers Clark Lydon and Ed Hall did well with Ed making three superb successive point blank saves in the second-half. Vinnie was helped out by his old mate Lutel James with numbers, Lutel bringing over a number of his young protegees including his son Lutel junior. Guiseley: Clark Lydon; Sam Hasmi, Sam Jacomb, Danny Berry, Jordan B; Adam Edwards, Sam Robinson, Henry Myers, Jamal; Liam Robinson, Lutel James jnr. Subs all used Ed Hall, Andy Sidowski, Chris McCarthy, Khadeem, Jordan. It was nice to have Andy Sidowski back with us as he takes a summer break from his university football in the USA. The next game for the Reserves is at Beeston St Anthony's a week on Saturday. The Lancashire League season opens on August 14th. The Reserves continue to train on Tuesdays and Thursdays under the guidance of Vince Brockie and Stuart Gray.

As ever seems a slightly biased on here, watching this game Barnoldswick had 6 lads under 20 playing and yes it was our reserves. We also had 7 lads out and were by far and away the better side in the first half. In the second you were the better side. Your first goal was far from exquisite, the ball went out of play by a yard and then the lad mis hit a cross that went over the keeper i must admit rather easily and into the far corner. Barlick had at least 3 one on one situations in the first half and the second you scored 2 goals due to lapses in concentration. Although the passing your lads performed was a joy to paly with as i thought both sides went about the game in the right manner.

I would like to the state that the goal was no fluke and I didn't try cross it as there was only one lad in the box so went for the dink over the keeper as he was off his line. Some have the ability, others don't ;D And as for the ball going out, have you not heard of the expression 'play to the whistle'? I didn't hear no whistle and got on with the game unlike some of the Barnoldswick lads.
