Sat 15 Dec 07 FA Trophy First Round
Guiseley 0-0 Kidderminster Harriers
Last years beaten finalists Kidderminster Harriers gained an unlikely victory against a resolute Guiseley side that came very close to disposing of their Conference visitors a in this delayed first round tie at Nethermoor. The home side got off to the best possible start as Nathan Hays long throw in from the right saw James Hanson steal in behind a static defence and put the ball past a startled Scott Bevan for the opener.
Guiseley showed their Conference visitors little respect and looked the better side for much of the first half with the visitors only having Iyseden Christie just failing to convert Russell Penn's cross at the far post and a goalmouth scramble following Steve Dickinson's save from Michael Blackfords shot to show for their endeavours whilst Mark Bett brought Bevan to his knees with a fierce low drive.
With Manager Mark Yates voicing his displeasure at halftime Kidderminster looked a better side in the second period with Dickinson doing well to keep out Gavin Hurren's rising shot and a neat header from Mark Creighton. Kidderminster eventually forced the equaliser halfway through the second half as an almighty scramble in the home penalty area was finished off by Penn.
Prior to this the lively Mark Bett had a goal disallowed and Dean Walters latched on to a wayward pass to beat two defenders to put his drive just the wrong side of the post with Bevan closing him down. Harkness the delivered the killer blow with a well struck free kick over the wall from in the last minute.
