Hello and welcome to the 6th edition of my blog which this week features a preview of the upcoming FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round clash with local neighbours and the oldest club in the world, Sheffield FC.
GUISELEY
THE LAST CUP RESULT: GUISELEY 2 – 2 GARFORTH TOWN (REPLAY GARFORTH TOWN 1 – 3 GUISELEY)
The home side struggled in a match where there were surely favourites to win comfortably against Division One outfit Garforth. They lost what seemed to be a game winning two nil lead and could easily have lost the game and cup run if Garforth had taken their chances. But Guiseley put in a decent performance at Town’s Genix Healthcare Stadium to secure progress to the next round. Goals from Burton, Brown and Tiani saw them home.
KEY PLAYER: DAVE BROWN
The dinky striker changes games in a flash by terrorising opposition defences who must wonder what’s hit them. He’s quick, lively and never gives up. The man will chase the ball all day and his pace is something to behold. Marking the attacker will be tricky for the away side.
HIGHEST GOALSCORER: STEVE BURTON
With eight goals in all competitions, the midfielder is a useful asset to the Guiseley side. He is blessed with a blistering shot which may one day take the net out. If Burton can add another one or two to his resume against Sheffield and play as well as he has recently, Guiseley could be on their way in to the next round.
SHEFFIELD FC
THE LAST CUP RESULT: SHEFFIELD FC 4-1 BACUP BOROUGH
Sheffield emerged as comfortable winners in this clash with Vodkat League outfit Bacup Borough. Striker Mick Goddard notched two while Paul Smith and Daz Winter grabbed the others for the South Yorkshire side. Sheffield created lots of chances and deserved their victory. They are clearly a dangerous team who create plenty of opportunities.
KEY PLAYER: PAUL SMITH
The experienced defender also likes to attack and cause havoc at set pieces. He notched four club awards last season and is going strong this season as an important member of the Sheffield defence. Guiseley could find it hard against the former Sheffield Wednesday man if he puts in as good-er performance as he has done in recent matches.
HIGHEST GOALSCORER: MICK GODDARD:
Goddard has nearly hit double figures in all competitions for Sheffield and shows no sign of stopping. He has formed a prolific 18 goal partnership with fellow striker Scott Partridge so Guiseley will have to be on their toes against these two.
FINAL ANALYSIS
This should be a really good game with two local sides coming together in a match where a lot is at stake. Whoever wins goes in to the final qualifying round where a place in the First Round Proper is on the line. Though Sheffield lie mid table in the First Division South, Guiseley should not take anything for granted in a competition where anything can happen. I think we will win but it will be a hard game.
