Win over Boston puts home blues to rest
“When have we last seen a good home performance?” one Guiseley fan remarked during the defeat to Buxton two Tuesday’s ago.
Fair enough, Guiseley haven’t played that often at Nethermoor recently.
But the fact our last home win came way back in the middle of September when we defeated Eastwood Town (plus Sturdy, Dunning and Smith) 2-1, speaks for itself.
Thankfully that record was put to bed with a stunning 3-1 victory over Boston United.
A superb second half performance, when fans must have feared the worst as Guiseley trailed 1-0 at the break, saw us triumph in style.
Home supporters have found it odd hearing the side have scored multi goal wins over the likes of Kendal Town, Ossett Town and Worksop. You would think Steve Kitterick fields a different team at Nethermoor.
But hopefully this win over the Pilgrims will springboard us to a solid home run which, when combined with our performances away from home, could see us in the promotion places.
The returning Piotr Skiba performed heroics to keep us in the Boston game, while an unbelievable tackle from Anthony Lloyd stopped the Lincolnshire side going further ahead in the first 45.
Ok, Boston were down to ten for some of the game but this should not take way from a fabulous performance. Quite frankly, they should have been down to nine after a horrific lunge on Whitehouse, who, ironically, was also tugged back by Michael Wood, Boston’s first guilty party.
Hopefully, we can put FC United of Manchester to the same sword on Sunday and steamroll in to the coming months with some fantastic form.
Next week I will preview what will no doubt be a tasty Challenge Cup clash with local neighbours Bradford Park Avenue and look at how well some non league sides have done in the FA Cup.
