Adam’s Weekly Blog no. 12
Hello and welcome to the 12th edition of my weekly blog. In this week’s write-up, I have reflected on the recent league fixture at Marine and the Challenge Cup game at home to Bradford Park Avenue (BPA).
Up two, down two!
Mixed fortunes hit our favourite team this past week as though they went down 2-0 at Marine, they reversed the same score line to defeat local neighbours BPA and advance to the 4th Round of the Unibond Challenge Cup.
Though I was not at the Marine game, my initial reaction was “oh well, it’s a tough place to go and we can’t win them all”.
According to reports, however, the performance was dire and akin to the kind of show we’ve sometimes seen at Nethermoor in home losses.
We must perform better away from home in future matches as this was an opportunity to gain further ground on league leaders Hednesford Town. Though we’re only three points behind Town, we could have been three ahead with a wins against Marine and Nantwich tomorrow.
Instead, we must at best settle to be level with Hednesford rather than topping the league with an advantage. But I have every confidence we will keep our otherwise good run of form going. On to BPA...
‘twas a very, very cold night in Nethermoor, the opposition nowhere to be seen with their coach running late, 8.15 we got underway, but all was worth it as Guiseley triumphed to gain another Challenge Cup date.
It sounds like the Christmas Story, but though there were no materialistic presents, I was so happy that Guiseley got this over with in normal time. If we’d have sat there any longer, my toes would have dropped off my feet.
Though the performance was by no means sterling and the performance was dull, it was great to see Guiseley see off their local neighbours with goals from Hanson and Thompson. It was nice to see Mark get his first goal for the club and I hope it will be the first of many.
I’ve been begging for Danny Husband to get a first team shout and he gave Steve Kitterick something to think about with a Man of the Match showing against our local rivals. He made some good tackles and passes throughout the game.
The BPA manager, who resigned that Tuesday morning, must have been laughing his socks off at what he’d left the next boss.
They were woefully awful and according to Yeadoner at the end of the game, “looked like a Northern Counties East team”. We could have hit six or seven past this fellow league outfit had we made more of our chances count.
Next week I will preview what will no doubt be an exciting encounter with table toppers Hednesford away from Fort Nethermoor.
