Adam’s Weekly Blog No.13
Hello and welcome to the 13th edition of my weekly blog. This time round I’m looking ahead to our top two match with Hednesford Town tomorrow afternoon.
Mouth-watering Clash A’hednesford
I feel tomorrow’s game could well indicate whether we will gain automatic promotion or face the nail biting play offs.
A win at Town would take us top by a point with a game in hand but a loss will put us four points behind the league leaders with Marine, Ashton and FA Cup heroes Eastwood Town biting at our heels. It is quite simply a must win match.
I’m going to take a look at form, key players and last results of both sides.
GUISELEY
Form
The Nethermoor side go in to this match having lost just one of their five. The recent loss at Marine was Guiseley’s first away defeat in the league this season and we will no doubt be looking to get back to winning ways on our travels.
We have notched impressive away wins this season against the likes of Ilkeston Town and Kendal and have generally done better against teams around us. Eastwood, North Ferriby and Ashton United have all felt "The Lion’s" wrath.
A win against Hednesford could well be on the cards.
Key players
Piotr Skiba has kept us in so many games this season with some fantastic saves. It is critical the goalkeeper is on top form against this attacking team who have hit 13 goals in the first three matches of their November campaign.
Skiba will have to be at his very best to thwart the Hednesford attackers. He must do what he was done all season and guard the goal with stature and presence.
Danny Ellis is, in my opinion, Guiseley’s best defender and he must also be ready to stop the league leaders from gunning at our goal. Ellis is a tall, well built and consistent centre back who we can rely on to do a good job. He is perhaps more important than ever in this battle.

With no disrespect to Nantwich, Guiseley may well have expected to get more than a draw at home to this mid table team. We did not put on a good performance against Nantwich and will need to put this behind us very quickly to have hope of a great result against the Pitmen.
It is imperative we play better against Hednesford and are on top of every statistic in the match. We must win more corners, have more shots and generally take the game to the leaders.
HEDNESFORD TOWN
Form
Despite a nine match winning streak in all competitions stretching exactly one month from October to November 8, Hednesford have slipped up in their last few matches. A loss at Ashton in mid November was followed with draws at Kendal in the league and Hyde United in the FA Trophy.
The Keys Park natives bounced back with a 5-0 thumping of Hyde at home to knock the Blue Square North side out of the Trophy but stumbled at FC United of Manchester where they were defeated 3-0.
Guiseley must look to exploit this recent dip in form and try to take advantage of any Hednesford errors.
Key players
Tyronne Barnett has netted 16 times for Town this season and has often found the goal in big scoring encounters. Guiseley must look to stop the impressive Barnett from increasing his already decent tally in all competitions.
Barnett has been booked twice this campaign so Guiseley must be aware of his physical presence and demeanour.
Striker Ross Dyer, believe it or not, has scored even more goals than Barnett having struck the net 17 times this season.
He was the Pitmen’s leading goal scorer last season and walked away with all of the club’s end of season player of the year awards.
Dyer has been booked four times this season so Guiseley must look out for his presence as well.
We must do everything to stop these two from building a home lead as they are more than capable of doing so.

While we were busy trying to break down Nantwich, Hednesford were battling away at FC United of Manchester. The league’s top team were soundly beaten 3-0 in foggy conditions.
Despite a valiant attempt to find their way back in to the match, United secured this upset win with two Kyle Wilson goals in the 13th and 70th minutes before Jerome Wright settled any doubts with an 85th minute goal.
There’s no reason why Guiseley cannot do the same if they play at their very best and immediately take the game to the home side.
Next week I will look at just how fun watching Guiseley at Nethermoor actually is.
