The Reserves won 3-1 at Woodley on Saturday on the all weather pitch. Woodley opened the scoring but Guiseley hit back netting two penalties against an ill-disciplined team who argued every point with the match officials. Penalties came from Liam Robinson and James Sylvester and midfielder Mark Wilby wrapped things up with another timely goal. Joe Hendrie was our Man-of-the-Match.
It took the lads some time to settle into the high pace of this game on this surface, the bounce causing them some trouble at first, and with five players unavailable they were always going to take time to settle.
We gave away possession too much in the first-half but gradually got back to playing some decent football - Vinnie's half-time roasting obviously did the trick!
Steve Thompson made a couple of truly excellent saves in goal. We gave a substitutes debut to former Bradford City youngster Will Hutton in the second-half.
The team was: Steve Thompson; Callum White, Dan Husband (C), Luke Hudson, John Cullen; Adam Hill (Sam Jacomb), Joe Hendrie, Mark Wilby, Liam Robinson (Will Hutton); James Sylvester, Rob Bradley. Sub unused: Vince Brockie.
This was the Reserves 11th league win out of 16 games, two drawn and three lost and they have a goal difference of plus 24 so not bad going, keep it up lads!
Next Saturday they play at Baildon Trinity Athletic in the semi-finals of the Wharfedale FA Challenge Cup against West Yorkshire League opposition so it will be a tough game.
Kick-off is 1.30pm so if you are not going with the first team please come up to Baildon and give the lads some support.
We were grateful for the travelling support at Woodley which consisted of Julie Thompson, Adam Hill's dad and grandad and Will Hutton's parents, bus driver Gary Wild plus of course young master Kai Brockie whose words of wisdom never fail to amuse the lads! He poses the questions to his dad that the lads never dare ask! Big thanks to Gary who had been suffering with illness all week but made the bold step onto the M62 with our rabble and gave his usual excellent service. We have top coaches in more ways than one - aren't we lucky!!
