On Saturday the Reserves will entertain Bradford Park Avenue, another crucial game in our quest to win the Lancashire League's East Division. The League Management Committee has decided that this season there will not be a play-off between the East and West Divisions for the overall championship as too many teams are behind with their fixtures and it would be difficult to fit such a game in (played over two legs last season). Guiseley are not one of the clubs way behind with fixtures and we would have loved to have taken on a team from the West Division. We had some good games against teams over in the 'real' Lancashire League before all our fellow Yorkshiremen came to join us in the league. We flew the flag for a number of years as the solitary Yorkshire team in the league but the two divisions structure has made it a lot easier on travelling and finances and we have had some real Yorkshire derbies this season with Guiseley, Farsley, Wakefield and Avenue battling away at the top end of the table. So all support welcome on Saturday for a 3pm kick-off and then we will entertain Stalybridge the following Tuesday night with a 7.45pm kick-off. All these games are vital to our title hopes so come out and support the boys - current league leaders and the league's leading scorers so they must be worth a watch!!

Why did we choose to give one of our worst performances of the season against BPA? James Sylvester had a couple of chances to put us ahead early doors but after that Avenue bossed the game. For a side that has played some beautiful football this season we were goaded into playing 'air football' and rattled out of our usual flowing style. Well done to Mick Couzens for plotting our downfall - he will certainly be one happy man! Another result that has blown the title race wide open. Wakefield as I have said before are dark horses in this league and after entertaining Stalybridge on Tuesday night we have to travel to Wakefield on Friday so it is a tough week all round. None more so than for the kit lady who has seven kits to wash in eight days!! Anyone want the job? We were watched by Leeds United starlet Aidan White (after a comeback game for Leeds United U-18s at Liverpool that morning as he prepares to play for England U-21s against the Czech Republic on Wednesday). Avenue netted courtesy of a penalty after a wayward push from Dan Husband. Welshman Alun Griffiths, the Leeds Uni student who has been on the bench for the first team of late, made his Reserve team debut and on the bench for the first time was U-16s goalkeeper Clark Lydon who can now be involved in open age football having reached his 16th birthday. We have not given up hope of the title so come down and support us against Stalybridge on Tuesday night, 7.45pm kick-off. Guiseley Reserves: Steve Thompson; Callum White, Dan Husband, Carl Palmer, Alun Griffiths; Adam Hill (Tom Higman 46), Joe Hendrie, Will Hutton, Liam Robinson (Will Boye 65); James Sylvester (Adam Edwards 65), Luke Hudson. Subs not used: Mark Wilby, Clark Lydon (GK)
