The Reserves won 2-0 at Ossett Town on Saturday (James Sylvester netting both goals) and now have just one game left against Ossett Albion at home on Saturday, April 25. Park Avenue can still pip us for the title, they need to lose a game so come on Hyde, Farsley, Harrogate Rail!!!! We went to Ossett Town and expected a tough battle, which is what we got with the likes of our former midfielder John Douglas in their ranks. Nice to catch up with his mum and dad. Other former Guiseley players who faced us were Mark Trueman, Kurt Noble and Luke Williams. Vinnie had to shuffle things about a bit as we were without all three of our leading scorers - Luke Hudson (on holiday), Rob Bradley (long term injured) and Liam Robinson (working) as well as two centre-backs in Carl Palmer (holiday) and Tom Higman (injured). We were grateful to James Cotterill, not figuring in the first team recently and willing to get in some match practice, and first team bench warmer Mark Thompson, who had a run out. Cotty paired up with an impressive Dan Husband in the centre of defence and they were flanked by the speedy and excellent Callum White and Alun Griffiths - the latter having played for England Universities against Scotland in mid-week along with our first team sub keeper Aaron Ratchord and ex Guiseley midfielder Dominic Krief. The whole team - and subs - battled well, overcame Ossett's initial thrust and then powered home. The scoreline could have been greater and Adam Edwards, on for his first full game, was disappointed to see his effort ruled out for off-side. It was another great effort all round. Guiseley's team was: Steve Thompson; Callum White, Dan Husband (C), James Cotterill, Alun Griffiths; Adam Hill (Mark Wilby 85), Joe Hendrie, Will Hutton (Sam Jacomb 85), Mark Thompson (Will Boye 70); James Sylvester, Adam Edwards. Subs not used: Clark Lydon, Vince Brockie. We will be keeping an eye on Mick and his BPA boys when they take on Farsley on Tuesday! What an interesting season this has been! Great advert for the league which has already had enquiries from other Yorkshire teams for next season.
