On Saturday (October 18th) Guiseley Reserves visit Otley Rovers in the Wharfedale FA Challenge Cup with a 2pm kick-off. This game will be played at Garnetts Field, Otley, near Garnett's paper mill as their usual pitch at Prince Henry's GS is not fit for play at the moment having drainage problems. The players will change at Weston Lane pavilion by the junior football pitch up on Weston estate. This will be a real challenge for the lads being back to 'parks' football, no cover for the spectators and bring your own half-time drink and umbrella! Rovers include in their line-up former Guiseley stalwart Peter Aytkinson and two of our former Reserve team players Adam and Scott Cater so it will be nice to see them all again.

You could watch the first half then go to Nethermoor.
Otley is a little town just down the hill from Guiseley.

Guiseley Reserves eventually triumphed 3-1 against Otley Rovers in the Wharfedale FA Cup on a back to basics pitch that was a bit of a disgrace but if they thought that would put us off it didn't but it took us a long time to prove it! One goalmouth was standing in water when we got there and when the water was mostly moved (former Guiseley hero of two Wemnbley finals Atki wielding a snow shovel with great skill!) it left a big triangle that was completely grassless and looked as if every kid in creation had played in that goalmouth throughout the summer. Obviously Leeds City Council do not do any remedial work on what could be a decent picth with a little bit of work, although a little small compared with what we are used to. Vinnie spent pre-match picking up and scraping away dog muck. The match started and again without Dan and Tom Luke Hudson filled in in defence. He must have had a cat nap as after five minutes he volleyed a superb goal past his own 'keeper leaving Thommo rooted to the spot and the rest of us gasping in disbelief. It was a cracking goal but unfortunately at the wrong end! It was a bit of an uphill battle after that as Otley tried to outmuscle us for a while but when their player cannoned off 'old timer' Thommo's well placed shoulder and landed on his backside it seemed to put an end to that! Guiseley created chance after chance but somehow managed to hit the body of the Rovers 'keeper who although he could never seem to catch the ball cleanly was becoming something of a hero for his side and our frustration grew. Eventually we were awarded a penalty and Vinnie took a bold decision to let the out of form Rob Bradley take it. Rob hammered home in style and his confidence started to come back and he bagged two goals in time added on to clinch the 3-1 win. As well as Atki Rovers included Adam and Scott Cater who spent some years with us in the Reserves.

Yes, with hindsight I rather wish I'd stayed for the whole game.

Sounds like a location for proper football for a change.
I remember a young striker making a goalscoring debut for Tranmere Park under 9s at Garnetts, and a number of years later a veteran fullback being dragged out of bed after some serious St Patricks Day celebrations to get man of the match on there.
Otley Rovers have strengthened, the used to basically be a youth team.
