Guiseley Reserves continued their good start to the season with their sixth win in seven games when they entertained new to the league Silsden Reserves on Saturday.
Silsden are managed by former Lancashire League referee Justin Crowther, now retired from officiating due to a back problem.
His team played some good football at times but Guiseley should really have been much further in front than 2-0 by the break on the chances they created.
Luke Hudson set Adam Hill up for the opening goal but Guiseley forced a succession of corners from which they should have done better. They eventually went 2-0 up when a Chris Davey cross ended up in the back of the net via a defender for an own goal with Hudson ready to pounce.
In the second-half the Silsden 'keeper raced out of his area and handled the ball, resulting in him being sent off. From the resultant free-kick Chris Davey cleverly placed the ball in the net.
Another excellent Davey corner was gloriously headed home by centre-back Calum Strodder.
The replacement 'keeper then raced to the edge of his area and took out Liam Robinson who played no further part in the game. Robinson's effort had already gone in the net but the referee dismissed the 'keeper and pointed to the spot. Adam Edwards came on to replace Robinson and Luke Hudson stepped up to ram home the penalty for 5-0.
Hudson and Will Boye were then replaced up front by Graham Shaw and Paul Wills.
A good ball from Davey was flicked home from close range by Adam Hill for 6-0 before substitute Shaw scored two fine goals to complete the rout.
Defender Jamie Cairmns almost got on the scoresheet but his header hit the bar from another exquisite Davey corner.
All in all a good result.
The detractors will say it was against nine men but by the time it became nine Guiseley were 4-0 up and the fifth was entering the net when the keeper committed his offence.
It doesn't matter how many men you are playing against you still have to get the ball in the net and most of the goals were fine efforts. It was to Guiseley's credit that they kept their shape and kept going forward, wanting more goals and not being content to sit back with the job done.
Silsden will have better days than this, they just need to learn a bit of control. They played some good football at times and will improve in this competitive league.
Guiseley's team was: Ben Higginson; Jamie Cairns, Calum Strodder, Dan Berry, Danny Todd; Adam Hill, Chris Davey, Will Hutton, Liam Robinson (Adam Edwards); Will Boye (Graham Shaw), Luke Hudson (Paul Wills). Subs not used: Sam Robinson, Clark Lydon.
The Reserves' next game is due to be against Wakefield but as the first team are at home in the FA Cup on Saturday when that game should have been played we are trying to re-arrange it for the following Tuesday at Nethermoor (7.45pm).
