Here is a brief summary of last nights game - Rachel gave me permission to write it:
Started the game poorly as BPA were more aggressive in their play - probably due to the fact that that Barry Thomas and me were making our return to the Hosfall Stadium after spending the past four seasons there...
Gradually got into the game and took the lead through Adam Edwards 1-0
Conceded a daft free-kick on the byeline, players failed to react to a loose ball 1-1
Our players went to sleep at a short corner, free header 1-2
HT
We 'talked' to the players during the interview and asked them to do certain things - they did - and we duly equalised through Adam Edwards 2-2
BPA were awarded a penalty when we lost possession on the half-way line and the hosts broke - BUT our 16 year old goalkeeper Clark Lydon made a good save
BPA: Jamie Abbott gk, Duane Bywood, John Cullen, Tom Gorringe, Simon Ainge, James Stansfield, Damien Mitchell, Aiden Day, Daniel Steele, Iwan Hanley-Heeley, James Kioma. Subs: Steve Helaimia, Chris Ndukuba, Chris McTigue (not used), Zaheer Khan (not used)
GUISELEY: Clark Lydon gk, Callum White, Danny Todd, Lee Williamson, Calum Strodder, Will Hutton, Adam Hill, Chris Davey (c), Adam Edwards, Will Boye, Liam Robinson. Subs: Danny Berry, Graham Shaw (not used), Mark Wilby (not used), Sam Whittaker (not used)
SUMMARY
I have only had three training sessions with the players but I saw signs last night that some of my methods are beginning to come through. We asked for 110% committment and we got it so all credit to the players. It was good to catch up with all the BPA fans, players and staff - and Vince Brockie who was watching the game in a Burnley jacket - why? Answers on a post card........
We are still second in the Lancashire League and some good news came from another game played last night as the League leaders Harrogate Town Reserves lost 1-3 at home to Ossett Town Reserves. We are now 5 points behind Harrogate and there is a long way to go
Thanks to Rachel O'Connor last night plus my Assistants Stuart Gray and Barry for their help and support.
Best wishes
Mick
