Guiseley Reserves 5 Harrogate Town Reserves 3
GUISELEY Reserves hit back from being 3-2 down to power to a 5-3 win over league leaders Harrogate Town at Nethermoor Park on Saturday.
One time league leaders Guiseley are aiming to reclaim top spot after suffering a blip with the loss of four players to paid first team football and the loss of manager Vinnie Brockie to the assistant first team manager’s post at Bradford Park Avenue.
New manager Mick Couzens has now settled in alongside assistant manager Stuart Gray and the side has kicked back into gear.
The loss of their goalkeeper and two centre-backs along with prolific striker Luke Hudson was a blow to the squad but the mainly teenage side has dusted iutself down and on Saturday showed what they are capable of.
With Liam Robinson unavailable due to work the striking mantle fell on the pairing of Paul Wills and Adam Edwards and how they responded.
Wills netted a hat-trick in a fine personal performance and Edwards, who was full of running throughout applying constant pressure on the Harrogate back four and goalkeeper, was rewarded with a goal.
The final goal fell to young substitute Duncan Beckwith with a superb strike.
Guiseley had to reshuffle their defence at half-time when centre-back Lee Williamson was suffering from illness and Jamie Cairns stepped into the back four.
Driven on by skipper Chris Davey the pace and power of the Guiseley side finally told but it was a game in which Harrogate played a full part, an excellent advert for Lancashire League football.
On Saturday Guiseley Reserves visit Ossett Albion and the following Saturday visit Otley Town in the semi-finals of the Wharfedale FA Challenge Cup.
