Guiseley Reserves maintained their position at the top of the Lancashire League with a hard fought 4-1 win against Yorkshire Amateur Reserves.
The opponents arrived at Nethermoor with a new Manager and ten new players from Chapletown Brazil – in their past three matches they had beaten Silsden, narrowly lost to an injury time goal against Harrogate Town and beat BPA at Horsfall last Wednesday 1-0.
So, a tough game was anticipated!!!
We went 1-0 up courtesy of Paul Wills but Yorkshire Amateur equalised when a shot was deflected off our defender Dan Husband – our opponents began to take control but we hit back before the break when Will Boye finished off a good passing move.
HT
Liam Robinson headed in to make it 3-1 as we took control of the game and the same player netted with a 12 yard shot
GUISELEY: Clark Lydon gk, Duncan Beckwith, Callum White, Dan Husband, Callum Strodder, Joe Hendrie, Will Hutton, Chris Davey, Paul Wills, Liam Robinson, Will Boye. Subs: Sam Whittaker (for Hutton), Sam Jacomb (for Husband), Sam Robinson (for Hendrie), Danny Berry (not used), Alex Rowe gk (not used)
TEAM MANAGERS THOUGHTS.......................
It was good to welcome back Joe Hendrie from his around the World travels. Following our last two defeats, the team were lacking in confidence but with encouragement and a few strong words before the game, we came through.
All credit to the players who rose to the challenge – it was a happy changing room after the match!!!
Our opponents were a useful side and will cause problems for other teams before the end of the season.
Thanks to Rachel O’Connor for setting out the kit, washing it and being the Reserve Secretary. Thanks also to my Assistant Stuart Gray for his ongoing help and support. Also to the injured Danny Todd – and Chris McCarthy for completing a task I set them before the game of writing some statistics on the players
Our next game is Saturday March 27 away v Eccleshill United Reserves
