Hello and welcome to the latest edition of my weekly blog.
This week I’m going to be looking at how some of our old Unibond League rivals are doing (I’m not too keen on the Evo-Stik branding lol).
BRADFORD PARK AVENUE
Current League position: 10th
Last five games: DWWWL
Final league position 2009/10: 2nd (1 point behind Guiseley lol)
The Guiseley AFC ‘B’ team aren’t doing as well as last season when they reached the play off final but lost out to Boston. This season has seen their old manager John Deacey return to Horsfall. We did the double over BPA last season with a thumping 4-2 win at Horsfall and a 2-1 home victory.
FRICKLEY ATHLETIC
Current league position: 20th
Last five games: WLDDL
Final league position 2009/10: 15th
A win at Frickley near the end of last season helped push us to the top of a tight league table that went down to the wire. They’re really struggling this season after a mid-table finish in 2009/10. I hope they do well as when I went to see Guiseley play there the fans were a welcoming bunch.
RETFORD UNITED
Current league position: 22nd
Last five games: LLLLL
Final league position 2009/10: 6th
It’s shocking to see Retford in bottom place when they competed so strongly against us last season. Following manager Peter Duffield’s resignation near the end of last season the team are languishing 16 points off the pace and look all but certain to be relegated. We compiled a draw and a victory against the Badgers in 2009/10.
NORTH FERRIBY UNITED
Current league position: 5th
Last five games: WLDLW
Final league position 2009/10: 4th
The Hull based side are once again flying high in the Evo-Stik League. Games against them were always enjoyable and this outfit may well have the prowess to be promoted. We didn’t beat them last season but they nicked four points from us.
KENDAL TOWN
Current league position: 9th
Last five games: LLLWW
Final league position 2009/10: 5th
Games against Kendal were always tight, feisty and entertaining affairs. Last season’s 5th place finish could still be achieved but Kendal will be more than happy with how minty their season is going. Despite a mixed form card they’re still mixing it up well with the other Evostik ingredients.
OSSETT TOWN
Current league position: 21st
Last five games: LLLWL
Final league position 2009/10: 19th
With a similar season to the last, Ossett fans won’t be at all happy at this moment in time. When Steve Kittrick took over the Guiseley hot seat he brought along a mixed bag of Ossett players in terms of quality. Games with Ossett were always tense with the local rivalry in mind but last season we notched four points against them including a thumping 4-1 away victory.
That’s all for this week folks.
Next week I’ll preview the big Luton Town FA Trophy game.
