Hello and welcome to the latest edition of my weekly blog.
This week I was going to talk about the great atmosphere at Nethermoor but having attended this week’s West Riding County Cup Semi Final I want to focus on referees.
On Tuesday the referee may have been good to us but in recent weeks this hasn’t happened.
Decisions haven’t been going our way recently such as the choices made in the games against Luton, AFC Telford and Vauxhall Motors.
After many blatant penalty appeals Guiseley players must have thought their luck had run out but following Tuesday night’s comedy refereeing show they must think their luck is back.
But they must have thought they were out of luck again against FC Halifax when a penalty was given against them for an apparent handball that hit Danny Ellis on the thigh.
It was that bad of a decision that the players were laughing about it. The two penalty decisions given our way were just as soft, especially the second one as the Halifax defender clearly got the ball.
But the Halifax fans and officials weren’t that fussed at losing a game that could detriment their title push. I even heard one Halifax fan say “It’s a good job this game doesn’t count!”.
One of the worst decisions saw Guiseley get a throw in through a Toulson over-hit cross from the right wing that could have led to a Guiseley goal.
The Halifax manager wasn’t even in attendance and so won’t have seen this as a big game.
But Guiseley will want to go on to win the trophy as they head to Valley Parade to take on Thackley in April.
However, Guiseley may not field a full strength team having played three games in five days at this point, leaving the team tired.
That’s it for this week folks. Next week I will look at the great atmosphere when Nethermoor is jam packed.*
