Hello and welcome to the latest edition of my weekly blog.
This week I’m looking at the great atmosphere when Nethermoor is jam packed.
When Leeds United visited us in the most recent pre-season friendly the ground was full to bursting with people queuing outside to get in as the game got underway.
There was even a Mexican Wave which hasn’t been seen at Nethermoor for a while!
In games where progress in a cup is on the line that atmosphere is even more electric.
Against Luton and Crawley, radio presenters and the media you never usually see gave each game a big match feel. But why don’t these fans turn up regularly for league games?
Playing within ten miles of Leeds United and Bradford City must detract from our attendance figures. Maybe people don’t see non-league action as attractive football but that is false at Nethermoor as we play a solid passing game.
The club have missed a great opportunity to attract new fans with the recent run of home games. They could, for example, have offered a “five for four” voucher pack. The idea was discussed at a Supporters Club meeting but was never followed up.
This could have increased our revenue and attracted more fans to a club on the rise. Not many people in the local area seem to know much about us despite regular advertising at nearby businesses.
But we rarely get a mention on the local news like most of the other sides do and BBC Radio Leeds never seem to have a commentator at Nethermoor but other sides have enjoyed that coverage from possibly more than one radio station.
Since the Wharfedale Observer went compact we rarely get on the back page and people may miss us.
That’s it for this week folks.
Next week I will look at our current bad run of form and assess our position in the league.
