Hello and welcome to the latest edition of my weekly blog.
This week I’m reviewing and previewing the play off semi-final contests with Boston United.
Tuesday saw us prevail in a tough first leg encounter with a 1-0 victory courtesy of a Warren Peyton stunner.
The goal was a 30 yard free kick which looked in from the moment that it was hit.
The goal, featured on Calendar News can be viewed here:
It was a game of two halves, Boston could have easily established a solid lead in the first 45 but they spurned a host of chances.
In the second half we took control of the game. We dominated the play and created several chances ourselves in a bid to get that crucial lead.
Peyton had played well all game despite having his confidence knocked through not featuring much in the last few weeks.
His goal could easily be the best free kick strike ever seen at Nethermoor; it was a peach which saw the crowd leap to their feet in celebration.
The game was tight and tense but we now have the lead going in to the second leg tomorrow at the Jakemans Stadium.
With two draws fought out between the sides in both league encounters the games between the pair are always close.
The 0-0 draw at Nethermoor was a great advert for non-league football in tough conditions with the rain pouring ferociously.
We initially lead in the away fixture but Simon Ainge’s goal was cancelled out. Should the same result happen tomorrow we will go through to the final.
Boston are fantastic on their own pitch but we are great away from home. If we play with the same determination and put in the same effort we did on Tuesday night then we have every chance.
With both Nuneaton and AFC Telford drawing 1-1 in their first leg there is no clear cut winner here either and this should also be a fascinating fixture.
It’s great to see us taking a huge contingent down to Lincolnshire with at least 49 people travelling on the supporter’s bus.
That’s it for this week folks.
Next week I will take a look at the Football League with the season having reached its league climax today.
