Hello and welcome to the first edition of my weekly blog for the 2011/12 season.
I can’t wait for it all to kick-off following a brilliant season last time out.
We suffered play-off heartbreak at Telford and have lost some big names this summer but have made new acquisitions and are looking forward to the season in a very positive frame of mind.
Goalkeeper Jacob Giles, one of those new signings, made some cracking saves against Bradford and looks good competition for fellow shot stopper Steve Drench.
Defender Mark Bower seems to be lacking a little bit in pace but he has a steady head that can shore up the back four alongside fellow defensive colleagues Dave Cyrus and Jamie Clarke.
Cyrus seems to be winning the fans over already following a neat performance against Farsley while Clarke also looks good despite having big shoes to fill following Ryan Toulson’s departure.
In midfield Michael Burns looks adventurous while Ciaren Toner is both quick and experienced.
James Booker may have to calm down with his tackles in this tough league where the refereeing seems to be somewhat questionable at times.
May be all Peter Davidson needs is a good run out as he has so far only made several substitute appearances.
Up front I am so far not impressed with Lee Ellington who has looked unfit in pre-season games.
It’s good to see Danny Forrest make his loan signing permanent as once again he looks useful as he can also feature in the middle of the park.
Peter Davidson’s brother Alex is currently injured but he got on the score sheet against Bradford and looks like the type of striker that will pester defences endlessly.
Gavin Allott seems like a Darryn Stamp-esque player with lots of height and pace that could prove ace in the striking department.
Overall the squad has been strengthened well following those big name departures and we look in good shape for the season ahead.
Here’s hoping for a great result against Hinckley. That’s all for this week folks.
Next week I will review both the Hinckley and Droylesden games.
