Hello and welcome to the second edition of my 2011/2012 blog.
It’s certainly been a tale of two halves where the opening two league games have been concerned.
A 3-0 home victory over Hinckley was followed by a dismal 2-0 defeat at Droylsden.
We wasted a host of chances in the first half against Hinckley and it wasn’t until the last five minutes where we actually took our opportunities.
Danny Boshell’s lob saw us secure a 1-0 lead but we could have had so much more at that point. Efforts from Toner and Allott in the final five eventually got us a good 3-0 result.
We played well but didn’t take a lot of our chances. We could well have lost against better opposition.
The Droylsden game was always going to be tough. They drew 2-2 in their first outing with Eastwood and could assert themselves in their first home game.
Possession was divided equally in a drab first half. Though Droylsden had more shots at goal we offered precious little up front.
The only real shots of note came from the two Danny’s, Boshell and Forrest.
As Guiseley fans continued to be surrounded by expensive and salty chips, Droylsden supporters had plenty to shout about in the second half.
Though it came through a Jamie Clarke own goal, their 70th minute lead was thoroughly deserved.
They doubled their advantage just five minutes later following a Simon Ainge defensive error.
They nearly got a third at the death but Drench pulled off a magnificent save to keep the score line somewhat respectable.
We have to pick ourselves up against Solihull tomorrow and turn on that spark that saw us flourish last season.
Following two losses they are struggling so we need to be in the game straight away and put the Droylsden defeat behind us.
That’s it for this week folks.
Next week I will see how the league’s shaping up and look at the early season pacesetters.
