Hello and welcome to the latest edition of my weekly blog.
This week I’m looking at the magic of this year’s transfer deadline day.
I was shocked to see Mikel Arteta become a Gunner right at the death on Wednesday night. As Everton fans, BrotherBrid and FatherBrid struggled to comprehend the loss of their highest paid star.
Following Arteta out of the exit door were Jermaine Beckford and Yakubu to Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers respectively, leaving Everton far short in the striking department.
The Toffees have signed two players on loan but still have a small squad. While other teams have dramatically splashed the cash, Everton haven’t spent a penny.
Arteta’s new team Arsenal spent a lot a few days prior to and on deadline day following the humiliating 8-2 thrashing at Man United last Sunday.
Owen Hargreaves’ return to the Premier League with Man. City has shocked many after a few injury prone seasons.
It’ll be interesting to see the reception he gets when they take on their city rivals at Old Trafford should he play.
Craig Bellamy was expected to go to QPR but ended up making a return to Liverpool while Raul Meireles swiftly left Anfield for Chelsea following the resigning of Bellamy.
But Chelsea failed to capture Luka Modric from Tottenham despite a massive £40m bid. Spurs strengthened that threatened midfield with the signing of Scott Parker from West Ham.
Stoke pulled off a triple coup with Peter Crouch, Cameron Jerome and Wilson Palacios heading to the Brittania Stadium late on Wednesday night.
It was funny to see a pizza delivery man arrive at Loftus Road as QPR signed the pacey Shaun Wright Phillips to add to their collection of summer acquisitions.
Leeds’ Max Gradel left for St. Etienne but the Yorkshire outfit haven’t signed a replacement for this quality player and the squad is weaker as a result.
Manager Grayson may well be after players in the loan market in the coming weeks.
That’s it for this week folks. I hope you enjoyed transfer deadline day and haven’t bitten off too many nails like BrotherBrid and FatherBrid.
Next week I will review the Vauxhall Motors game and take a look at Non-League Day.
