Hello and welcome to the latest edition of my weekly blog.
This week I’m going to look back at both the Vauxhall Motors game and Non-League Day.
We played really well against Motors, the game was exciting and our passing game was at its best as we totally outclassed the opposition.
Drench may have been sent off at the death but we left with a convincing 4-1 victory that leaves us in good stead for the trip to Corby.
It is rare to win a game so convincingly without the superb Danny Ellis but that’s exactly what happened.
The game was watched by a solid crowd of 522, which reflects the club’s good advertising and offers. It was also a figure one of us might have got spot on in the prediction league. Thank goodness for BrotherBrid’s work commitments!
Vauxhall weren’t a bad team; they just couldn’t get that vital final pass in. Had they not wasted an early chance it could have been a different story.
But after a Vauxhall man was dismissed for a nasty lunge our opponents were always fighting the odds. His bad tackle can’t have made his manager a happy man as it was totally unnecessary.
However, before we bought Baldry and Alex Davidson on Vauxhall were edging back in to the match.
Baldry’s strike that took the game to 3-0 effectively killed the game off.
His second that made it 4-0 ended any slim hopes Motors had of getting anything out of the game.
Vauxhall got their goal in the 89th minute after Drench missed the ball in a one on one and gifted Motors a penalty.
It was a goal they deserved but Drench’s sending off was harsh especially so late in the day.
Vauxhall never gave up and are a credit to the league but Guiseley played well and deserved the victory.
Non-League Day, which was held on the same day as the Motors game, could help clubs with finance problems tremendously.
It could also attract fans back to the grass roots game when their league sides are away.
It was a great idea and should continue to be held annually across the country.
That’s it for this week folks.
Next time I will preview the Worcester City and FC Halifax games.
