Hello and welcome to the latest edition of my weekly blog.
This week I am reviewing the win over Worcester City and looking ahead to tomorrow’s encounter with FC Halifax Town.
I will also discuss our opponents for the FA Cup Second
Qualifying Round, Stalybridge Celtic.
We went in to half time 1-0 up thanks to a Gavin Rothery goal following 45 minutes in which we dominated despite a disallowed City goal.
We came out in the second half and played much better, going 3-0 up before Worcester grabbed a goal which was scored in style only for Alex Davidson to finish them off.
Rothery and the team’s second came via the penalty spot on 48 minutes after a foul on Lee Ellington.
To their credit the team that lost 4-1 to Altrincham in their previous game didn’t give up and came close to scoring.
Following a goalmouth scramble Guiseley counter-attacked and subsequently went 3-0 up from Simon Baldry’s neat finish.
Worcester still pressed and were rewarded for their efforts with a quality Martyn Naylor free kick.
But Alex Davidson’s deflected shot killed the game off at 4-1. Further to their credit Worcester bounced back tonight with a 3-0 win over Solihull Moors.
The victory over City will keep up our confidence ahead of the visit of Town tomorrow night.
Halifax, who could well include Guiseley old boys Liam Needham and Ryan Toulson in their side, will be out for revenge following two losses to Hinckley United and Vauxhall Motors.
They were 2-0 up against Hinckley with 20 minutes to go and suffered a 5-1 beating at the hands of Motors while having just 10 men for the majority.
We must be on our toes against this competitive outfit who will be out to prove themselves following a disappointing start to the season.
We have been drawn against tough FA Cup opposition today.
Stalybridge Celtic are doing as well as us at the top so this could come down to one mistake or a brilliant bit of play.
Being away from home will make the game even more difficult but we have shown before that we can prevail against tough opposition.
That’s it for this week folks.
Next time I will review the big Tuesday night of football.
