Hello and welcome to the latest edition of my weekly blog.
This week I am reviewing last Tuesday’s massive night of football.
Well where to begin? There was a small match going on at Elland Road while all the drama was at Nethermoor where Guiseley surrendered a 2 goal lead to somehow lose 4-3 to FC Halifax.
Though I heard something about some Premier League Champions visiting the dear city of my birth I was more concerned with this amazing match.
Guiseley were ahead after just one minute through Alex Davidson then we doubled our advantage thanks to Gavin Rothery.
At 2-0 after eight minutes it looked like we were cruising but Manchester United’s first at Fortress Leeds was soon followed by Halifax pulling one back.
Rothery’s header just before half time put us further in front against our local rivals.
As Volvoman looked on shocked following two more United goals, half time arrived and we went in happy at the break.
But Halifax were a different outfit in the second half. An unfortunate Danny Ellis own goal on 51 minutes pulled it back to 3-2 and just four minutes later it was level.
We were stunned by both the performance and the score line. Halifax were dominating and it wasn’t long before we were behind following Lee Gregory’s second goal.
One Town fan’s reaction was disappointing and immature as he referred to us as “s****” and argued with Guiseley fans.
The man, who looked 40 in age, left a bad impression of his club and should be ashamed of himself.
There are no words to describe just how badly Guiseley fell apart in the second half.
Though there were no changes at half time, it was like watching two different teams for 45 minutes each.
As Leeds went down to their greatest rivals seemingly without fighting, we lost our verve and spirit in a frenetic second half.
Joe O’Neill’s sending off completed what would turn out to be a miserable night for Lions’ fans, players and staff.
Simon Ainge, who I feel should have started against Halifax, could be back in the team tomorrow at Gainsborough Trinity because Mark Bower is suspended.
It will be a tough game in Lincolnshire as just one point separates the two teams in the league.
We have to pick ourselves up and remember just how well we have played in previous games.
That’s it for this week folks.
Next week we’ll have an FA Cup special.
