Hello and welcome to the latest edition of my weekly blog.
This week I’m looking back at a couple of our rivalries over the years.
Stalybridge Celtic, who currently sit one league place above us in second, are one such rival.
Last season we battled Celtic three times, twice in the league and once in the FA Trophy.
Two of those games were feisty home affairs and included an FA Trophy Second Round victory.
In the league match Stalybridge were reduced to nine men while Guiseley had Darryn Stamp sent off.
This season we gave a fantastic account of ourselves in the FA Cup at Bower Fold and left with a 2-1 victory.
Despite their seven point lead, we are very much on an even keel with our Manchester rivals and could easily pull those seven points back over the coming games.
Our next league fixture is against Hyde who are unbeaten after 12 games. This will be a stern test but gives us a great chance to claw back those points and make a statement.
Bradford Park Avenue are a more local rival who we have shared fierce exchanges with over the years.
In the 2009/10 season we beat them three times, twice in the league and once in the West Riding County Cup Quarter Final.
We triumphed 3-0 in the County Cup with ex Lions Liam Needham netting twice and Stuart Rudd scoring a rare goal.
In a tight encounter witnessed by a packed Nethermoor crowd we saw them off 2-1 in the home league match thanks to two James Walshaw goals.
The return battle fought at Horsfall Stadium just two days later saw us win 4-2 in a memorable match.
The games were definitive in deciding the Unibond League title’s destiny as we went on to lose our next three but were victorious in the final match against Ashton United.
I will always remember us all stood as one waiting for the Boston score to come through before we celebrated on the pitch and James joined the lads in the dressing room.
That’s it for this week folks.
Next time I will preview a rare trip up north to Ashington in the
FA Cup Third Qualifying Round.
