Hello and welcome to the latest edition of my weekly blog.
This week I’m naming my favourite Guiseley team.
The team may seem very modern but the side are playing at their highest ever level and so I feel this is justified.
In goal in a 4-4-2 formation I’d have Steve Drench. He’s a quality ‘keeper who’s made some great saves and is very good at distributing the ball.
He saved three penalties in the Boston play-off semi-final penalty shoot-out to help take us through to the final.
In defence I’d have Anthony Lloyd, Dave Merris, Danny Ellis and Simon Ainge.
Lloyd could do just about everything; he attacked with bravery, netted penalties and made some solid tackles. His Guiseley career was unfortunately cut short by a horrific injury.
Like Lloyd, Merris isn’t afraid to go forward. He rarely has a bad game and is committed to the club.
Danny Ellis is, put simply, a rock in defence and like Merris and Simon Ainge is both committed and very rarely has a bad game.
In midfield I’d name Warren Peyton, Ciaren Toner, Simon Baldry and Gavin Rothery in my line up.
Had he maintained his form and had a better attitude, Warren Peyton could still be at Nethermoor and would easily have won Player of the Season last time out.In the play-off games we saw the Peyton of old. His free kick against Boston was a wonder to behold.
Toner is never afraid to shoot, he’s good at passing and has great control. His goal against Solihull was unforgettable but James Marshall will quickly forget it
Baldry is a consistent player who gets on with the job in hand and is skilful and quick.
Rothery has been amazing since he joined and has already hit double figures as top scorer this season. He never gives up.
Up front I’d have Mark Bett and James Walshaw.
I’ve always been a fan of Mark Bett. He’s scored some good goals, he was energetic and he was quick.
James Walshaw has deservedly gone to greater heights after a fantastic 2010/11 season. He scored bags of goals and was a great penalty taker.
On the bench I’d have Steve Dickinson, Ryan Toulson, Simon Sturdy, Craig Hall, Steve Burton, Andy Wright and Danny Forrest.
Dicko is a Guiseley legend. Ryan Toulson had a hard shot on him and was an ace attacker. Hall was a huge fan favourite who often scored and took penalties well.
Steve Burton was an impact sub who despite his previous reputation could change the game in an instant. Wright was a pacey winger who also entertained the fans and scored more than a few.
Danny Forrest is a technically gifted player who has put away some great goals.
Bossing my side is Steve Kittrick who has both won us trophies and got us promoted.
Please feel free to add to this debate and choose your favourite Guiseley outfit.
Next week BrotherBrid, who has tutted more than a little during this process will name his favourite Guiseley team.
