Hello and welcome to the latest edition of my weekly blog.
This week BrotherBrid is naming his favourite Guiseley team of all time so I’ll hand the reins over to him.
In goal I’d have Steve Dickinson. The man is a living legend who gave his all for Guiseley and made a catalogue of stunning stops to help us to many great glories.
In defence I’d have Peter Atkinson, Danny Ellis, Colin Hogarth and Anthony Lloyd.
Fan favourite Atkinson was a tough defender who always got stuck in and gave opposing attackers a hard game. He often hustled and bustled among a tight Guiseley back four.
Current centre back Ellis is a rock who always puts in a good shift. He marvels at leaping for headers and ensuring the ball is clear when we’re in trouble.
Colin Hogarth’s commitment to the team was first class. His work rate was such he even did his post round before appearing for Guiseley at Wembley one time!
Lloyd is a cracking defensive dynamo whose pacey attacks from right back created many exciting Lions attacks.
In midfield I’d have Gavin Rothery, Simon Baldry, Lutel James and Craig Hall.
Gavin Rothery has really shone this season and is becoming a real valuable asset to the centre of the park as he continues to take his chances in front of goal.
Baldry is a real battler who never gives up and is nearly always first to those key 50/50 balls that can swing a match.
Lutel James was a quick, dynamic midfielder who could change a game with one moment of magic. He put many defenders to the sword and often dictated play in the middle.
Craig Hall hit many a scintillating strike in to the Nethermoor nets and was nearly always first on call to score from the spot.
Up front I’d have Geoff Horsfield and James Walshaw.
Horsfield was a cracking striker who proved his ability not only at Nethermoor but in the Premier League with the likes of Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion.
Walshaw is a whizz on the ball who became a huge fan favourite after netting so many times and establishing such a presence in and around the penalty area.
On the bench I’d have Steve Drench, Dave Merris, Paul Bottomley, Andy Wright, Steve Burton, Gavin Knight and Bob Colville.
Steve Drench is a fantastic ‘keeper. Were it not for Dickinson’s legendary status among the Guiseley faithful he would be my first pick in goal.
Merris is a loyal, tough defender who has also shown he isn’t afraid to burst forward and start an attack with pace.
Paul Bottomley was a no nonsense bull at the back who kept out many impending attacks with fierce rear guard action.
Wright was a pacey winger who provided a host of crosses and scored wonderful goals much to the delight of the Guiseley crowds.
Steve Burton was an excellent addition to the bench; he was almost a super sub who changed games just by joining the fray.
Knight was a speedy striker who enjoyed taking on defenders. He netted some sublime goals during his spell at Nethermoor.
Bob Colville was a popular fan favourite who bulldozed forward, struck up an impressive partnership with Geoff Horsfield and notched many important goals in the early to mid-1990s.
That’s it for this week folks.
Next week FatherBrid will add to the debate by picking his favourite Guiseley team of all time.
