Hello and welcome to the latest edition of my weekly blog.
This week FatherBrid is going to name his favourite ever Guiseley team so I’ll hand over the reins to him.
In goal I’d have Steve Drench. He’s a very consistent goalkeeper who very rarely makes a mistake.
In defence I’d have Peter Atkinson, Danny Ellis, Simon Ainge and Colin Hogarth.
Atkinson always gave 100% in every game. I’d like to have seen
him playing now competing at a higher level.
Danny is a brilliant defender who is badly missed when injured. Like Atkinson he always gives his all.
Ainge is similar to Ellis; he’s a great captain of the side who always plays well.
Colin had a great left foot and was a brilliant servant to the club.
In midfield I’d have Gavin Rothery, Vince Brockie, Warren Peyton and Billy Roberts.
Rothery is our player of the season so far. He’s come on leaps and bounds and is the club’s leading goal scorer to date.
Vince was a tough tackling midfielder. You knew you were in a game if you played against him.
Peyton was a great pin-point passer who could pick people out with ease and add to that with a superb goal or two.
Billy provided great crosses from the left wing which set up goals for a number of forwards.
Up front I’d have James Walshaw and Geoff Horsfield.
Walshaw’s goals gained us promotion in the end, he was a great goal poacher and he could take a penalty.
Horsfield could be relied upon to score goals both at non-league and professional levels.
On the bench I’d have Steve Dickinson, Dave Merris, Anthony Lloyd, Simon Baldry, Mark Bett, Dean Walling and Bob Colville.
It was hard to choose between Dickinson and Drench but what a player to have on your bench.
Merris was player of the year last season but just missed out as my first choice only due to the fact I haven’t seen him play as much as the others.
Anthony was one of these players who never let you down, could be relied upon to do a job when required and was another one of the 100%ers.
Baldry is a great utility man who can play in all midfield positions.
Mark could play in midfield or attack and was a good all round performer.
Walling was a consistent performer who went on to play professional football with Carlisle.
Bob was another consistent player. He was a loss to the British game when he emigrated.
Next time we will review the Harrogate Railway game and preview the match against Workington
