Hello and welcome to the latest edition of my weekly blog.
This week I’m previewing the now rescheduled Cambridge tie and looking back to transfer deadline day.
I was disappointed to see the FA Trophy game called off.
We could have taken hundreds of fans and had a great day out but the hard work of the Supporters Club has been undone by Britain’s cold snap.
With the game now scheduled for Tuesday evening we must refocus our attention to upsetting the Blue Square Bet Premier outfit and progressing in this competition.
Our opponents currently sit tenth in their league and are just four points off the play offs but league form goes out the window in cup games.
We’ve stuttered a little in recent matches but this game offers the chance of a real confidence boost and an opportunity to step closer to Wembley.
We’ve been super in this competition so far thumping Eastwood 7-0 and knocking out FC United of Manchester and Stalybridge.
Along the way we’ve not conceded and put 11 past our opposition. All those games have been at home but we face a stern test at the R Costings Abbey Stadium.
Transfer deadline day wasn’t that noteworthy in the end.
Sure, Nikica Jelavic and Bobby Zamora made major moves to Everton and QPR respectively but very little else happened.
It was surprising to see Louis Saha jump to Spurs and Keith Andrews made a late switch to West Brom.
Most of the intrepid Sky Sports News reporters ended up shivering for a deal in the cold but their man at QPR was inside the club following a fire at Shepherds Bush.
Jim White and Natalie Sawyer counted down the minutes with kings of personality Dave Bassett and Iain Dowie.
It could only have been made better by the presence of the always exciting commentator Alan Smith who sends many viewers to sleep.
I was, however, genuinely thrilled by the hilarious advert hyping up the day with all the reporters training in the army.
Here’s hoping for a more eventful summer transfer window.
That’s it for this week folks.
Next time I will review the Cambridge game and take a look at the Premier League title race.
