Hello and welcome to the latest edition of my weekly blog.
This week I’m reviewing our valiant efforts at Cambridge and previewing tomorrow’s league match against Eastwood Town.
We gave it our all after a long journey down south but we were just defeated through one chance with that little touch of class in front of goal.
In many ways it was like last season’s clash with Luton Town, one mistake that gave our opponents a sight of goal cost us.
We were even with or better than our Blue Square Premier opponents for all but that moment and came close to forcing a Nethermoor replay.
No travelling Lions fan left disappointed; we were in full voice throughout, chanting lines like “Yorkshire, Yorkshire, Yorkshire!” and “There’s only one Danny Forrest!”.
The U’s stewards complimented us on our performance and told us we’d be back there in the league if we kept playing like that.
We gave a great account of ourselves and although we lost we can hopefully use the game as a plateau to keep up our excellent league form.
That being said, as Steve Kittrick has told the local media, we cannot afford to underestimate the Badgers who are in the middle of a relegation battle.
We comfortably dumped Eastwood out of the FA Trophy earlier this season thanks to a 7-0 thumping at Nethermoor but this could only make our opponents more determined.
The league match at Coronation Park finished in a 2-2 draw as we came from behind near the end to come away with a point.
Granted, the squad was depleted for the match and we spent most of it with ten men after Michael Brough’s handball sending off so in some ways it was a good result.
As we close in on the end of the season anything can happen and three points are vital to both teams for different reasons.
Eastwood last picked up a win in the league way back in late October but recently defeated Sutton Town AFC 5-3 in the Notts Senior Cup.
We will have a battle on our hands against the Derbyshire outfit but we should have confidence following a sterling performance at Cambridge.
That’s it for this week folks.
Next time I will review the Farsley game and look ahead to two more massive league matches against Nuneaton and Gainsborough.
